  • Georgia Firearm Carry Law Course

    Date: Thursday, December 15, 2011
    Times: 8:30am until 12:30pm

    Location: Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah

    4 hours POST credit - Approved for GACP executive credit
    Cost: No tuition

    This four hour course is designed to provide sworn law enforcement with a comprehensive understanding of the laws which pertain to carrying firearms in Georgia. Topics discussed include definitions used in Georgia law, carrying weapons without a license, carrying weapons in prohibited places, armed security and juveniles, and statutes which regulate the carrying of weapons by on/off duty law enforcement officers. The course concludes with a review of criminal and civil cases chosen to stress the application and enforcement of weapon laws and identifying the associated search and seizure issues.

    Presented by: Senior Police Officer Mike Banja is a nine year veteran of the Atlanta Police Dept. He has taught firearm carry law since 2008 to over 1200 law enforcement officers across the state. He is a POST certified Senior Instructor, defensive tactics, and firearms instructor. He is the head of Atlanta PD's Criminal Procedure Instruction Team and is assigned full time at the Firearms Training Unit.
