    District of Columbia Emergency Management Agency Hosting Severe Weather Symposium in July
    The District of Columbia’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) will be hosting a Severe Weather Symposium on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, from 9 am to 1 pm at Gallaudet University’s Kellogg Conference Center located at 800 Florida Avenue, NE, Washington, DC.

    The Severe Weather Symposium will provide an opportunity for residents, DC Agencies and departments, business and community stakeholders and regional and federal partners to discuss implications and respective roles and responsibilities facing various severe weather events. The goal of the Severe Weather Symposium is to engage all partners so that they are better prepared to address the realities, implications and areas for improvement in planning and responding to severe weather in the District of Columbia.

    The objectives are:

    •To educate participants on the District’s and community’s abilities to prepare for and respond to severe weather.

    •To provide awareness on the realities and implications of severe weather events as well as actions that can be taken to mitigate the consequences of severe weather.

    •To provide the opportunity for stakeholders to identify alternatives and improvements that can be made before, during and after severe weather events.

    •To identify innovative ways to share resources within communities and throughout the region.

    •To increase participant’s knowledge and awareness of the value and importance of planning and coordination to the District and to the community.

    •This event is free and open to the public.

    You are invited to pre-register by visiting our registration link (www.dcsws.org/ ) or by going to HSEMA’s website at www.hsema.dc.gov. On-site registration begins at 8 am and continental breakfast will be served. Free parking is available.
