  • Traffic Control "Pickle"

Anyone know of any DIY instructions for making a traffic light "pickle" (the cable used for controlling traffic lights). I have found as few stores online that sell them but they are pretty expensive for what you are getting ($35+). My department doesn't seem too interested in buying more but doesn't mind us having our own. Thanks.

Interesting you call it a pickle. Former Navy? That's what they call the hand switch the LSO holds when a plane is on approach to a carrier. Too low, too high, you get the "pickle". Also heard it referred to on boomer boats, to fly the birds.

Ours were just a 1/4" phono plug, wire and a momentary contact switch. You can pick up coil cord pretty cheaply. I mounted a switch in an old bicycle hand grip, and potted it all in.
