Over the weekend I visited a friend's motorcycle shop and found a group amassing for a ride. I hadn't done a group ride like this for years so I decided to tag along. There were probably 25-30 bikes total.
Maybe a few blocks in we came to a stop light and it turned red for me so I stopped. The rider next to me stopped to, but had a WTF? look on his face. The light changed and we caught up to the group at the next light. But as we proceeded I noticed some self-appointed ride captains jumping ahead and blocking off intersections so the full group could get through. I should point out these were not motor officers, but civilians on regular street bikes. They did this for numerous intersections, including a major one where 2 multi-lane roadways met.
The area I work in is a pretty congested metro area, so these sorts of bike groups don't often ride through my beat. For those that do see or deal with them more regularly, how do you treat them. Would a bunch of motorcycles going through a red light be something you'd stop for (assuming they're generally well-behaved otherwise)?
As for my participation in this particular ride, I decided to peel off when the first stunter went by my with a full 12 o'clock wheelie.
