Teeth cleaning question

It's time for the yearly fitness for duty vet exam, I have the option of getting his teeth cleaned while we are there. What are some of the pros and cons of the K9 teeth cleaning procedure? He is a detector not patrol dog.

Keeping the dog's teeth clean reduces the amount of bacteria in your dog's mouth. Bad teeth can lead to gingivitus, heart disease and kidney damage. The only downside is you may be required to put your dog under anesthesia, there is always a risk when that happens.
