  • foot pain while on duty

Does anyone have any tips on dealing with foot pain or advice on in-soles that have worked for y'all? (I'm dealing with pain on the balls of my feet).
I have tried 3 pairs of boots (I moved from 12 to 12wide on the last pair) & 2 sets of "dr scholls work" insoles... and I still have the pain. I work at an airport police dpt so we spend 7-8-ish hours of our 10hr shift up on our feet.

I've been dealing with foot pain for about five years now, off and on. Work in urban environment. My dogs can get really aggravated pounding the pavement.

Been to several doctors and have gotten several diagnosis: Stress fractures. Gout. Tendonitis. Migrating arthritis. Cellulitis.

Usually ice and elevation and ibuprofen keep it from getting out of control when it flares, but once every year or two I go limping to my doctor for a predisone shot. Those seem to last for several months.

The last flare up had the bony knob on my ankle so inflamed and red you would've thought it was Rudolph's shiny deer nose. I could barely walk. Doctor drained out a huge load of blood and puss.

If there's a magic in-sole, I haven't found it. I wear Asics Gel Kayano shoes. They are actually a running shoe, and the all black version passes muster for appearing like a uniform shoe. I replace a pair every three months.

I used to watch the old guys- 25 plus years on- always hobbling around from the wear and tear of it all. Now I am one of those guys.

    Welcome to the club. Sucks.

What kind of boots do you wear? How tight do you lace your boots? My feet will begin to hurt if I do a lot of walking in loosing fitting boots.

Go to a Podiatrist and get an evaluation, plus orthotics. They know what type of boots you need.
Now go home and get your shine box!

I agree with CCCSD! I had a co-worker retire because he went to an Orthopedic doctor instead of a Podiatrist. Ortho botched the treatment and left him crippled.

Yep. My Pod is great, hikes, camps, knows all about walking issues.

One of my feet started really bothering me a few years ago. I went and saw a podiatrist who said I was overpronating. He suggested Powerstep Pinnacle Maxx insoles. The insoles combined with some exercises I saw on Youtube, seemed to have really helped out.

Go to a podiatrist and see if they need to make you custom inserts.

thanks for all the info guys, it has been a tremendous help. I'm looking for a podiatrist in the area...hopefully he can work some magic. As a temporary fix, I found some insoles that specify "ball of the feet pain" and they are helping a little.

I was wearing bates 8in lightweights when the pain started (I had been wearing them for around a year before the pain started). I'm currently wearing Tactical Research Khyber side-zip boots.
