There was a local agency (Mooresville, NC PD) that looked into this a few years back and even had some drawings done. They never followed through with it and I talked to one of their Sgts. about it not too long ago. He said that they ran into some legal issues and that many of the 'sponsors' were making demands about who else could 'advertise' and where their cars would patrol.

I think in today's budget crunches, this may be a good idea...but I also agree that it should be in good taste. Maybe we could talk Exxon into giving us free gas if we advertise for them!

Would you also be able to get track time at the speedways, LOL!!! It would be pretty cool to get Tony Stewart as the chase vehicle to practice pursuits!

I'm not from an agency that has advertising on their cars other than "POLICE" but I can't believe that any LEO would want to be driving around a patrol car with anything but that on it. I don't care if the car was a donation or not. If who ever donated the car insisted that advertising be placed on the car I as the department head would have to tell them to keep the damn thing. It's bad enough with the disrespect towards LEO's as it is. What's next? If a pizza place donates a car will the department or municipality agree to make deliveries too? Geesh give me a break.

My department has a tiny logo on the side of our cars for the company that installs all of our communication equipment. I think we get a large discount for it. It's pretty small and doesn't look bad but I don't like it.

That would be too funny. If I had a choice I'd want to drive the Bud Light or Crown Royal car!!!

Most of the departments in my are that have a DARE program with a designated car have it decked out in as many lights as they can cram in and a "stylish" paint job. The cars are often donated, and in those cases, the dealer's name is plastered all over the car.

I've seen in the Pacific division of LAPD a few Toyota trucks w/ a "donated by" decal on them. Seemed to be tastefully done.

I don't see an issue if a car is donated an a taseful "thanks" decal is applied
Just don't make it a rolling billboard.

The Yankees donated 3 or 4 cars to our agency a couple of years ago and it has a decal on it. I don't have a problem with it as long as it is regulated, to some degree. I would hate to see a dunkin doughnuts or krispy kreme decal on the side of my car. The way i look at it is if it cuts the cost of the car that means more money for other things ie. rifles, training, raises.
