  • Need info on Crystal Meth

    Hi,

I'm looking for info from LEO's on their experiences with Meth. We've been fortunate here that it isn't a HUGE problem yet. it's becoming a problem in the gay communities, but the everyday ****heads and gangbangers haven't been overly invovled yet. Seems like the guys I talk with from rural areas are seeing alot of it. It's only a matter of time before the gangbangers figure out how to make a profit with it on the streets.
    Any info would be great.

    Thanks

Working in the city we have not had much of it yet. The rural areas around here have been experienceing a large incrase in it though, especially with the increasing Latin population. If you can make contact with any officers from MO, thay can probably answer any direct questions you have since according to DEA info they are the top in reported lab seizures lately. All of the classes that I have been to (even out here in VA) have been taught at least in part, by MO officers.

It's easier to cook when you don't have neighbors three feet on either side of you so that probably has something to do with the influx in rural areas.

We're still stuck on crack and P. I think some of the hoodrats are scared by meth too.

Do you have any specific questions?

Specific questions... hmm. I hate to use the word "profile" but maybe some common traits of users, producers, distributors, etc... Things to look for that are tools of the trade (crackheads break car atteneas, or have brillo pads, etc..) I know anyone with too much cold medicine is a red flag.
Really anything from anyone who has experience dealing with it on the street.

What kind of posession laws does it take to make a case?
Any specific traits to someone who is on it, (that aren't common to other controlled substances)

        Again, any info.

        Thanks,

That aren't common for other CS? Hmmmm, most of my experience is from meth users...so I'm not real sure about the effects of most other drugs save marijuana. So, the "profiles" may be the same as cocaine, heroin and what not, I just can't say for sure.

            But, the users of meth...
-watch for nasty *** looking sores on their body, all over, depending on how long they've used
            -rotten teeth
-if they smoke it, bad breath (has a distinctive smell that I can't describe)
-many are unnaturally skinny, sunk in cheaks and such, skinny to the point of looking ill, 'cause they are
-Very nervous behavior, a lot of looking around, twitching, scratching their bodies, scratching and rubbing their hands together

They take it about every way possible. They inject it, snort it, and smoke it. I would guess a lot of the paraphernalia will resemble that of crack. Often times here, when they smoke it they just use folded up aluminum foil, then pitch the foil when done. This seems to be the most popular way of using it around here.

Objects to look for that may suggest meth...
-unusual amounts of cold medicine containing ephedrine/psudoephedrine
            -pieces of aluminum foil
            -large amounts of salt
-large amounts of matches for red phospherous
-glass pyrex containers, especially if there is any residue
            -coffee filters
            -rubber tubing
            -anhydrous amonia
            -starting fluid
            -camping fuel
            -Heat

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Be careful with these ****heads, I chased one on a mc last week, he had two wrecks on the mc, once into my patrol car, and still ran on foot. They were small wrecks, as he had slowed down a lot, but I know the ***** had to be hurt. He probably just didn't feel it till he came down. They don't feel pain.

What do you mean by this?

What kind of posession laws does it take to make a case?

What city do you guys work in that aren't seeing a lot of meth? I'm moving there. I work in a city of about 400,000 and growing, so mid-sized, I guess. I see it EVERY DAY. That's no exaggeration, it's all over this place. Of course, I work in the "bad" area, but I'll bet it's in the other parts of town, too.

Oh yeah, besides smoking, injecting, and sniffing, they also eat it. Look for all the crack paraphernalia; if they're smokers (the most common) the paraphernalia is the same. Glass pipes are more common than metal because it takes a lot more heat to smoke meth than crack. If they use a metal pipe, they burn themselves. Also look for heroine paraphernalia. If they inject, it's the same. You get the picture.

Hau409 gave a great description of a meth user. Take that to heart. Also, they love their porn. I don't know if the drug makes it so they can't get it up, or what, but every tweaker I've encountered has had a motherlode of porn with them -- freaky stuff, too.

When you're going to domestics or other calls for service, be on the lookout for labs. Here are some characteristics: Junk everywhere, glassware, blacked out windows, abnormal amounts of common chemicals (Coleman fuel, lye, battery acid, etc), coffee filters with red or orange colored junk in them, horrible smell -- like ammonia or cat urine, signs of child neglect / abuse, etc.

I work for one of the largest city departments. I've heard from friends who work in other departments outside the city that their experience with meth is similar to yours. Like webjeep said, the hoodrats might be scared of it too. Crack and pot are just too profitable and unless they have a huge amount, cases don't go anywhere in court. Thats why I was wondering about the amounts of meth it takes to make a good case.

That just depends on the state/county you are in, along with the ****head's record. Typically here, if you can get the PA to file for a warrant in the first place, 1st offense is usually probation, 2nd 180 day shock, 3rd maybe some time. That goes for most user amounts and small labs, which is what us patrolman usually see.

Yeah, the sores are the dead giveaway. Especially if they've got the bad
Bathtub" stuff. We get a batch of that every now and then. But the nervous behavior, paranois, twitching, etc. They'll usually have the glass pipes, syringes, foil, little plastic baggies. We usually file cases with just residue in the baggies. Usually, you use up all the residue to get a positive test. It's under 4oz. so it's still a 3rd degree felony. Anyone seen the "Kryptonite" out there. That shows up rarely out where I am. It's either a red or blue colored crystal. And yes, talk to any Missouri officer you can find. They've had their fair share of seizures lately.

We are finding that gay men are now combining meth & viagra. No suprise that the rate of HIV infection is going up again.
