I don't think Second Chance has fallen by the wayside (yet). True, the Ultima armor was a flop due to the Spectra issue, they still produce the best body armor.

I currently wear the Second Chance Monarch 3, level 3 vest and I swear by it. It is the lightest, coolest and most comfortable vest i've worn so far. With over 1000 saves, I don't think you could go wrong with Second Chance.

Ok, that sounded like a commercial

Second Chance is gone. They will be no more. Supposedly Richard Davis (their founder) is trying some back door deals by having his friends try to buy out the equipment to start a new company. Don't know how that will work with all the lawsuits that he is named as the defendant in.

Personally, I wouldn't trust my life to Second Chance after seeing how their upper management screwed the pooch with the zylon controversy and then tried to muddle through it with lies.

There is a TON of good armor out there. ABA, Safariland, and numerous others. I'm a big fan of the Safariland stuff, myself. Unfortunately, it ain't what I get issued and I don't have the ching to buy my own right now.
Nobody ever wants to have to fight, but its a darn good idea for someone to know how.

I posted something like this in the duty gear forum. Somebody put a link to bullet proof me dot com. I was sort of skeptical because they were not known to me.

I looked at there stuff and what they had to say about it. Then I shot the guy there a few e-mails. I was pleased with the responses.

Since the whole Second Chance deal I am thinking seriously about going "back" to a Kevlar vest. It is a bit heavier and a but stiffer, but the material is proven. The fellow there mentioned Gold Flex. I told him I didn't know. He agreed to make me a vest in each and send him back the one I liked the least. He also agreed to send me some panels thay had tested.

I havn't bought from them yet, but I mightwell be afixin' to.

I feel bad for you guys who have to buy their own vests. At least it's a tax write off.
