Too many years have passed since I worked UC, any info would be outdated.
The only advice I can offer is: if assigned (vice) Hotel/ Convention/Escort prostitution avoid any public places your in-laws may stumble upon.
If working UC dope or a sting with an inexperienced partner, make sure the idiot is not wearing a black basket weave belt.
It can be tough on home life, spouses may not be comfortable or appreciate the nature of your assignment.
Good luck and be safe.

There is certainly a difference between being "under cover" and being a plain clothed "detective".
If you aren't doing UC buys, being intro'd, straw purchases of firearms, meeting a booky, etc then you are just a plain clothed detective which isn't much different then a uniform patrol guy.

My buddy is the one in charge of hiring and keeps telling me to put in, but I just cant seem to pull the trigger. It's about an hour and 15 minute drive (I live 2 counties away from previous agency), with even more screwed up hours than patrol, and I have a newborn, plus I will eventually have to go back to the agency paying for the spot, and it's known to not be such a great place. So no I don't work undercover but considering it, just need a little more convincing.
