This is from my neck of the woods, I don't know if it's made national news yet. Tragic story of epic stupidity.

    ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Deputies said they charged a new suspect in the fatal shooting of an Anderson County man testing a bulletproof vest after the first suspect tried to take the blame for him.

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said a woman has been charged after a man died when a bullet missed the protective vest he was wearing when he asked a friend to shoot him.

Anderson County deputies said they received a call at 2:41 a.m. from a home on Broadmouth Church Road and arrived to find the victim lying in the garage area of a home with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Anderson County deputies said Timothy Fisher, 25, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of Blake Wardell.

Deputy Coroner Don McCown said 26-year-old Wardell bled to death after he was shot in the chest on Wednesday at a home on Broadmouth Church Road in Honea Path.

McCown said Wardell and about eight to 10 friends were hanging out at the home when they decided to try on a bulletproof vest and have someone shoot them. He said Wardell wore the vest but the shooter missed the Kevlar, hitting him in the chest.

Several hours later, deputies arrested Taylor Kelly, 18, in connection with the shooting, charging her with involuntary manslaughter.

Deputies said during an interview Thursday, Kelly admitted she did not tell the truth during her original statement and additional evidence confirmed her story, implicating Fisher.

Deputies said Kelly's involuntary manslaughter charge was removed, but she was charged with accessory after the fact to a felony.

According to arrest warrants, Fisher shot Wardell and Kelly helped him knowing he was a felon to "avoid the consequences of his crime" by telling deputies she shot Wardell.

FOX Carolina spoke to Kelly's grandfather Friday morning about her arrest.

"I'm hoping she can get out and get on with her life," Jimmy Dale Kelly Sr. said. "She was facing five years or more in jail for trying to cover for this boy and I told her to tell the truth. I said, it's in the Bible, it says the truth will set you free."

Deputies said the investigation into the fatal shooting is ongoing and additional charges could be filed in the case.

Fisher's bond was set at $50,000 on the charge of involuntary manslaughter. He was also instructed by a judge to not have any contact with the victim's family.

His first court date is scheduled for June 20.

Kelly's bond was set at $10,000 for the charge of accessory after the fact to a felony. She bonded out on Friday afternoon.

The Wardell family is accepting donations for the burial of Blake Wardell. For more information follow the link or contact Cox Funeral Home, located at 201 River Street in Belton, SC.

      Some take-home lessons from this:
      1) Nothing is "bulletproof," especially when the bullet goes around it.
      2) Nothing is idiot-proof. Just when you think you've made it idiot-proof, someone builds a better idiot.
      3) Morons should be kept away from alcohol as much as possible, but if that doesn't work, try to keep them away from firearms, motor vehicles, etc.
      4) There are multiple reasons convicted felons are prohibited from possessing firearms.
      5) IQs tend to drop as BACs rise. Stupid people don't get smarter from consuming alcohol.
      And so on . . .

I've actually met this guy. He worked loss prevention at a Walmart in my area. The story I heard was that he actually went through a regional academy, but after this video surfaced (even made Tosh.0) he couldn't get hired by any police dept.

People are dumb...and the stupidity did not end with the death of their friend. Why anyone would falsely admit to a manslaughter charge is beyond my comprehension.
