  • What to do when it's raining

What are some productive ways to make use of my time on patrol when it's pouring out?

That is, other than visiting O.com, which is what I'm obviously doing right now while it's pouring.

We get more alarms in the rain....than carter has pills. People forget how to drive in the rain....accidents galore.

You can still do traffic enforcement..you just need a pen that writes in the rain.

Peeps don't like it when it rains so "poaching" is usually slim pickings.

Go to records and get a warrant list....then off you go!

Go to a mall or strip mall in your zone and conduct a "meet and greet" with your store's. Get the layout of the store in case you have to come back during an incident. Makes the dept look good (you too) and management will love-it. Just my thoughts.

Best thing that ever happened was when they gave us Toughbooks with DVD drives built-in. Find a quiet corner where you can be "visible" while running "radar" and pop in that recent Netflix mailing. Its a great chance to keep up on your movies.

While a good cop NEVER lets his badge get wet, there are many things you can do. The PR thing, stop by the ER and stock up, clean your guns, detail your squad, or just patrol - let them see you pout there preventing crime.

                        Imagine that.

If it is a light rain, I'll throw on a rain coat and do my thing.

If it is a monsoon season, park the car somewhere and surf the web on my phone or catch up on a book.

I'm also part time property officer, so there is always something to do in there when things are slow.

It'd be a good time to double check your equipment and make sure you have enough tow sheets, booking sheets, written statements, etc. At least, that's what I do. B/c let's face it, working in the elements sucks

What is this "RAIN" thing you are talking about...??? We have had only two (2) days so far this month.
