  • "But I live right there"

Is this just an inner city thing, or do people from every state / city walk through crime scene tape and utter those ear piercing words "But I live right there?" These same people will walk right toward you pushing a stroller with kids inside, while you are engaged in a felony stop with 20 guns / rifles pointed down range, directly at them. Do they really not care for their safety, are they just dumbed down so much that they don't even bat an eye at danger?

    Thoughts?

they are inconsiderate sheep who believe that whatever is gong on does not involve them so they should be able to pass. Highly selfish

Its bad on accident scenes too where highwaays and streets are shut down.

Doesn't matter where it is, flashing red and blue lights and crime scene tape bring out the stupid in people. I really liked the woman in the upper-class neighborhood along the golf course years ago. I had the street blocked while awaiting the bomb squad's arrival for a possible pipe bomb found near the street. The Mercedes-drivin' Important Person wanted to go through, and was quite insistent that she not have to take 10 minutes to go around the other way. I finally told her "lady, there's a bomb right here! Ya really wanna keep driving down this street?" She turned about three shades paler, her eyes got big and she was out of there faster than I thought the fat, idle rich could move.

You've seen the youtube video right? I think our residents have a special degree of retard in them that leads to the awesome perimeter debate of "But i live right there", followed by "but my kids are alone, i need my medication, did ya'll arrest ___________ again? and my favorite "Why you alway's violatin my rights and keepin me down?"

We hear PLENTY of those excuses out in the 'burbs. Also plenty of people who think that the squads, police line tape, fire equipment, and flares don't apply to them. I've had many people ask me at a scene like that "Officer, can I get through?" Sure, pal, let me just move all that equipment so you can get home 30 seconds earlier.

Don't even get me started on how many people want to stop and watch any time a gun clears leather around here. I've never understood why people would think that anywhere cops need guns out is a place they ought to be.

The lack of knowledge or common sense is worldwide... some may call it stupidity. Some peopel just don't know any better and truly aren't trying to do any harm. Others have the "me" syndrome and their little world is more important than anyone elses.

We had a major roadway closed (fatality), w/ other roads open so the sheep could navigate around. Nighttime. We had everything imaginable , flares, cones, crimescene tape, units stopped blocking off the road, medic and fire units (all w/ their lights on). And here comes this one guy approaching all of this mayhem.

I'm standing outside my unit and what does he ask "um sir do u think I can get through?" I was in disbelief but composed myself. I turned and looked over my shoulder, surveyed it for a moment and turned to him and said "I think not".

My favorite is "Ive lived here for 30 years and I only know one way home"

A benefit that a rural officer has is that you most likely know or are at least familiar with who lives on certain roads. There are many like the above, but one that stands out is the guy with out-of-state plates who said the usual "...but I live right there!"...to which I replied, "No, you don't. " What an idiot. Move along.

Two years ago a tornado ripped through central NH (yes, we get tornadoes) and I was outside of my area assisting with a road closure. One of the morons who drove up to see what was going on was a guy from my area who I was looking to serve. Heh. What a moron, and a surprised moron at that.

The video was actually the springboard for this thread. I just was on the fence about being the one to post the link... lol.

The OIS crime scene I was on for 8 hours last week had its share of idiots.. Lets see, one guy drove past a police car, flares, flashing red / blue lights and the crime scene tape. I had about 100 people ask to go home at 3 am. I almost had to tackle the brother of the decedent that walked right past the tape..
