  • Tricking out your marked squad

If you could set up your marked squad car, what lights would you use? Slicktop or lightbar....where would your strobes be located etc?

  • #2
Nice question, I just got in trouble for putting extra TIR3 LEDs on the rear of my Expedition. All I have back there is HAW strobes in the taillights and the lightbar, which is mounted over the B pillar. Sure wouldn't mind an Arrowstick w/ LED flashers in the rear.

Definitely would like a slicktop truck with a mirror-mount spotlight, Traffic director in the rear window, LED's in the grille, dual-head strobes above the rear-view mirror, LED's in the mirrors...... :-)

Never mind the lights, I'd get one of those big ol' FD air horns...

These cars come w/enough junk on them. What I do is carry a backpack w/xtra change of ERT gear, sock, t-shirts and what not. Also, due to hurricane prone area I carry two one gallon jugs of water and some MRE's just in case we get called out or I get stuck out on something.

I'd rather have someone at fleet drop in a 5.4 into the CV's to make them a little more than just adequate.

Siren wise - -either an authentic fire-truck Q horn or an old fashioned whistle from a big steam locomotive, like a Reading Railroad T1.

Lights - our impalas would look good with side-mirror mounts, grille strobes, wig-wags, a full-size interior lightbar, and amber arrow stick (rear) on the back deck with those bouncing lights like you see on some firetruck fronts on either side.

I'm trying for a right headlight and to get that slow leak in the D/S rear tire fixed.

The bouncing ones are "Mars lights" We are actually getting away from using them in the fire service, but IMO, they are some of the BEST attention getters. one of our engines still has one on it.

                          .
Oh, I had a Federal VG siren mounted on the Expy, too. That got yanked a week after I put it on.

A lot of the Fire Depts in our area are going with the Rotoray lights. They were big when I was a kid and are making a comeback. My volunteer rescue squad is spec'ing a new ambulance with a Rotoray or an 888 light in the center of the box up front. Code 3 and Federal made some moving lights but not as good as the Mars.
