  • LA Hollywood Bank Robbery

Sometime in the past year there was a video reenactment of the LA shooting. It was on Discovery or History Channel. There was a rundown on the officer who was bleeding out and no one could get at him.

Our agency is doing some practicals for officer rescue, including tourniquet application. We wanted to use part of the video for the beginning of the class.

    Thanks, and stay SAFE!!

Why would you want to SUE just part of the film? What have they done to you to make you so angry? Unless you would sue the 2 bad guys for stress....

Be glad to assist, but I have to ask; is there a question, there, somewhere?

Although you corrected the typo, you still have not stated what, if anything, you are looking for.

This profession is not for people looking for positive reinforcement from the public. Very often it can be a thankless job and you can't desire accolades, because those are not usually forthcoming. Just do your job to the best of your ability and live with the decisions you've made.

I thought cops in southern states( sorry kinda though VA was more "south" than eastern sea board) carry rifles regularly to counter shooting threats !!! Bascisally the No Ho shoot out caught LAPD( and much of West coast L.E. ) off guard, because the tried and true PRIOR tactics of surrounding the location , isolating the suspects, and forcing them down by using SUPERIOR #s didn't really work on two doped up, heavily ARMED and BODY ARMORED knuckleheads willing to shoot at anything that got in front of them.

Nobody expected a full scale gun battle, nor were the officers responding truly prepared for it-even today I'd say many here are only marginally BETTER prepared- Long guns beyond the perennial 870 pump shotgun are STILL NOT readily available to all patrol officers in the City of L.A. ( the suburban PDs fair better in arming their officers with MP-5s, Semi Auto shotguns, and M-4/M-16 rifles).Had any # of the LAPD officer had a Mini 14, or M-4 carbine available, the terror that ensued would have never taken place.

Goodluck on the training- hopefully you can role play and round table the incident to see where your dept may be deficient if an incident as bad hits the fan in your community.

I don’t know of any agency here in Colorado where we don't carry long arms, personal or Agency issued.

It's just so basic it is absurdly comical that any administration would not allow their Officers to carry one.
Be safe pulling back into the thread...

I would suggest you contact the LAPD Academy and ask them for whatever video they have. I'm pretty sure the Tactics Unit has videos about the North Hollywood Bank of America shootout that they could send you.

You would have to verify who you are, either by phone or a written request on your Department letterhead. Good luck.

The Shootout video has a scene where an officer is behind a tree, with a gunshot to his leg, and is bleeding out. We are starting a new block of instruction for officer rescue and self care/buddy care, imitating the Combat Casualty Care Training the Army and Marines are using. We wanted to show the scene that is reenacted where one officer uses his gunbelt to make a tourniquet, and the other almost bled to death.

We just picked up some cash to purchase IPOK kits for all cars, and the first block of training will be using the CAT tourniquet.

                          Thanks for all the responses.

To go along with this both LAPD and LASD put together some very good training videos. LAPD used to (don't know if they still do or not) put together really good training reviews of tactical incidents. It would be well worth your time contacting them directly and seeing what they have for this incident.
