  • Raincoats?

I'm looking for a good breathable rain coat/parka. I would prefere one that is black on one side and yellow/green with the reflective tape on the other. The longer the better, I'm 6'3" and would like one to go almost to the ground. One with a slit in the side for your gun would be nice but good but it doesn't have to have it.
    Any sugestions would appreciated.

I hate those big coats and got tired of waiting for my agency to work out the contract for rain suits (jackets and pants) so I bought my own "civilian model." The color is close enough to suit me. They're light, breathable, packable, and were cost effective. I've had the pants on over my uniform pants all day with the jacket on most of the day, and I haven't gotten hot yet.

I used to wear the two piece. Light to medium rain I would wear the top only, especially in warmer weather. Heavy down pours, where there was a liklihood I would be out in it for a while, I would wear the bottom over Levis (not uniform pants), and put the top on when I got out of the vehicle.

They did not have the lighter weight sets when I retired. Now, I would still use the two-piece in the modern, light weight materials. They repel water very well and, yet, they breathe and don't get you over heated.

We use a well known brand name that uses Gore-Tex as a material in the liner. You don't sweat up like you do with the rubber coated style. 2 piece set. As CHP Sgt sez....we wear jeans or sweats under the pants and the regular uni shirt under the jacket.

Check the better known police supply catalogues and you can probably find a set at around $150-$200. Comes with reflectorized cuffs. The only thing keeping me from wearing it off-duty is the big CHP reflector patch across the back.
