  • Florida Concealed Weapons Permit

Good Evening. I'm not new to this forum, but my posting leaves a little to be desired. After 30 years on the job in New Jersey, I m 3 months away from callling Florda my home. My wife and I have been going there off and on for 20 years. I have been trying to look up information on concealed weapons permits there in Florida. From what I have found, it looks like I will have one year to get a permit from my retirement date. Then I will have to get the permit. It looks like I will also get a waiver for the permit being a retired office. Please corect me if I'm wrong. How am I doing so far? I will be buying in Fort Myers also. Next I will have to check into getting with the local PBA if I can. talk to you later.

    milkrun49,

I'm not from Florida but wouldn't your retired creds. and qualifications be enough under HR218?

I am in PA and I know of someone in PA who got a Florida CCW via the mail, so I don't think it's too hard to get.

    Good Luck!

apply for the permit now and by the time you retire you'll have it. requal just before you pull the pin and you'll have a year from that dqate to carry under HR218 so if you drive down you can bring your piece. Try this website: http://www.licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/weapon. You can get the application off that website, I believe. If you want to do the app up in NJ then you'll have to be printed. If you are in Florida you can go to the Sheriff's office and be live-scanned. The fee is about $175.00. For the print version it takes about 12 weeks. The website explains the whole procedure. What part of Florida are you heading to?

        Fl. Concealed Permit

Hi there Dinosaur32, I believe G-MAN is on the right track. I read a few things on other LE sites that say the "HR" bill says that you just have to have your Retired Creds. and badge to be good. I also read that if you apply before you retire you have a year before you have to apply. Again I read that a retired LE Officer can apply for the permit and all fee's are weavered. I guess I will try to call the Florida Dept. Of Agriculture And Consumer Services. (Permit agency" Monday. I will let you know what goes. By the way, I will be buying a condo in Fort Myers. I go down the 2nd of Sept to check it out. G.

Unless change from last year there's a charge for non-Florida retired LEO's. Problem with HR218 is that after the first year, I believe you have to qualify to your state standards. And you have to qualify every year....with the Florida permit you are good to go without having to qualify each year.

With the HR218 you can carry in all 50 states.............

I'm a Florida CCW holder, you'll have no problem at all with you're application, it'll take about two months to receive you're card but well worth it!

Fees are not waived, just reduced with a Department letter head. Here's the statue that explains the CCW: http://www.flsenate.gov/statutes/ind...0790/Sec06.HTM

                  CCW Permit

Thanks for all the info. I just completed my application from the Florida Dept. Of Agriculture And Consumer Services. I don't believe I will be working when my next qual. comes around. So I included a copy of my weapons instructor papers from about 10 years ago and a copy of my DD214 as stated in the app. I figured being a Vietnam vet shows that I may have some experience with weapons. LOL. Thanks again.

HR 218 covers you if you have at least 15 years of service prior to retirement. You need a ID card stamped retired(obtained from your current agency). Some states have you fill out the paperwork and return it to your state LE licenseing board. It never needs to be renewed and you do need to Quailify annually, but you can go to a public range in FL (or were ever you are living) and shoot a qualifaction course with a NRA or similar licensed instructor and have that with you. There are many websites that can give you the full scoop on HR218, but it is much better than FL CCW, it is good in any state!

                        CCW Permit

Well I think I'm on the right track here with all the help & tips I got from all of you. I sent the paperwork in this afternoon, so we'll see.
I think what I want to do next is look into getting into the PBA down in Florida. Seeing I have been with it for all of my 25+ years on the force. I'd like to keep in touch with the law enforcement community where I'll be living. How can you do so many years and just leave it cold? I'll be closing on my condo in South West Fort Myers next week and look forward to possible meeting some of my brothers at some time.

                            F.o.p.

I'll look into it, the F.O.P. here didn't do much for me. The didn't handle our contracts, so I went for the P.B.A. Not to say I couldn't change.
