  • Cop Taser's Dispatcher

It's true. Guess what he got from it. A write up, and that's it. The captain conducted the investigation and he blew it off as horse play. He covered it up real nice.

Heres what happened. I will admit from what I got the two were just kidding around but the use of his taser took it to far. The two were in the dispatch office and she went to use the phone next to him, he pulled out his taser and dry tased her in the hand. Now before this he was always pulling it out and threatening to tase every person in the department. Since this happened we no longer carry the taser.

Let me know your thoughts or ?'s on it.

PS. We are a small department of 15, no IA.

If he is not responsible enough to carry a taser and your dept's solution is to take away everyone's taser I would start looking for another agency to work for, honestly it's not a reasonable solution to the problem. Are they going to take everyone's guns away when he starts waving it around?

Just from what you described that officer could be liability. He should of at least had a day off for what he did. People play around all the time, but not to that extreme.
Some people were just dropped on their heads as children more than the rest of us!

Screw him....where's the adult supervision? "Now before this he was always pulling it out and threatening to tase every person in the department." WTF?!?!? Anyone who saw this clown fooling around with a weapon, and didn't do anything to stop him, should be written up. Any supervisor who knew needs to contact a lawyer and get ready for a supervisor/vicarious liability lawsuit that the dispatcher should be filing.

It took my department a couple of years to get tasers. Every time we'd try and get approval from the city council, someone would show stories like this and the council would say no.

That sounds just like my old department. When one person messes up, punish everyone.

Get rid of the clowns and let the rest do their job.
          ROLL TIDE!!!

Well like always there’s a little bit more to the story. One of our Lt’s is his buddy and they were both pulling them out on employees. The whole department is basically intimidated by the two: with the out come of the taser deal, I’m sure you can see why. They get away with a lot of BS.

See our ex-chief recruited the officer that tased the dispatcher to work here from northern Ohio. Now the Lt got promoted to Lt without taking a test for the position because he was buds with the ex-chief as well, they found a lope hole.

Our old chief retired, but only after he was charged and convicted of unlawful restraint. We all have our fingers crossed that we get a new Chief that will come in and clean the department up, mainly those two. The city just got a new Mayor and he is all for the police. The department is a nice place to work minus those two. I think there dangerous and have told the captain that as well. But it went no where.

PS. The Lt got a write up as well. The two grieved everything and thought they were being treated unfairly.

I feel for you bobby. The 'Buddy' and 'Ole Boy' systems are all over to one extent or the other. Good luck with your new chief.

A friend of mine is a dispatcher for a small town and was shocked twice by one of the officers, once while she was preggo. I believe he was only demoted.

That kinda thing really p*sses me off! It's not called horseplay it's called assault!

They are serious tools to do our job and not to be used in that manner. Farthest I've gone in the office is winging those giant rubber bands at one another. Yeah, it can leave a welt! LOL!

I'd never think of using any of my weapons.

                    Taser issues in horseplay

Well...I guess I will jump in here.

In one department I worked a new officer thought it would be funny to dry fire the taser behind my rear....needless to say the zapper jumpped into my right buttock. I was to say the least ****ed off. I yelled at the new "officer" and the two sgts heard this isseu. Not a thing was done by the sgts.

In another incident at another department an officer was carrying a taser into the store room when the chief suggested to dry fire the taser behind me while sitting....I did not get the zap but I was again p-d off.

I swear this profession is losing the professionalism that was once so revered and respected. No wonder the public does not respect us, we don't respect ourselves......

Yeah, I worked corrections for a while and some of that time was at our work release facility. The Admin. gave the officers OC to carry on duty.

Well, people can't be mature enough and got bored one day and they started OC'ing each other in the break room!

                      Yeah, no f'n kidding!!

                      Lots of problems with that!!

As you guessed they took the OC from us. I found this out after coming back to work from my days off.....Here I am asked to give up my OC???

Funny thing is that we still had shotguns & golf carts.

The officer will not, or can not, use the Taser properly. His supervisors will not, or can not, correct his behavior. His colleagues will not, or can not, correct his behavior.

Sounds like the department as a whole isn't ready for Tasers. I suspect it isn't ready for other things, but that's assuming facts not in evidence.

Giving this guy a nastygram and taking Tasers away from everyone may not be the best possible solution but the Captain may be doing the best he can with what he's got.

The dispatcher will have the last laugh I guarantee it.

He'll wait till hell freezes over for reg, dl and warrant checks, as well as anything else not life threatening.

                            What a maroon.
