  • Off F.T.O. - Now solo...Care to guess my first call?

Some of you already know I was a 30 year cop in a big city, on the west coast. I have seen many things. I have done a few. I have been shot at. I have shot and hit someone. I've arrested armed robbers. I have negotiated the release of a hostage from an armed & barricaded suspect. I have talked out an armed suspect who shot at police. I have talked jumpers down. I have grabbed jumpers on very high-rise buildings. I'm now in a place where the tallest building is usually only two stories.

Today was my first day soloing, after six weeks of adult supervision (FTO).

My very first solo handle was: Cattle in the Roadway!

Yes, Bessie got loose. A trucker was kind enough to stop and try to help me round her up. He explained where the "gates" are in a section of fence and how-to use them.

I pulled out my 30 foot length of webbing/sling material (with carabiner attached) and tried to lasso her. All I really needed to do was just scare her toward the opening in the fence. Mission accomplished. I wonder how things are back in Rampart????

The most troopers i've seen on a call was a baby bull (sorry, don't know proper names for wildlife) that probably weighed about 700 pounds that got loose that was heading towards a very populated area of town with outside bars/restaurants. People probably thought we were chasing after a murderer, cause there was probably 25 troopers and 15 city cops!!! Good times!
"When I close my eyes.....I'll see you on the other side....!!!"

Hate to put it this way skippy, buy every night I suit up and climb in the cruiser I'm at war. I'm always outnumbered, potentially out gunned and always behind enemy lines.

Kieth, I had to try not to laugh too much because all my neighbors are asleep but that was funny. I laughed at the "I wonder how things are back in Rampart?" comment.

The new station is open, HUGE compared to the old one, really nice too. Looks like a really nice office building, unlike most LAPD stations as you well know. Had to swing by there last week, wondered around for 30 minutes looking for records! They need to print an RD map blowup of the inside of that place.

Glad things are going well for you up there, take care.

If you hit your airhorn they will usually run back through the hole in the fence, back into their pasture.

God, I was afraid they'd done sent you to BoJangles, honey.

Tell me something...is it use of force if you'd actually landed the rope?

I don't agree with your opinion, but I respect its straightforwardness in terms of wrongness.

                  A "bul-let" perhaps?

By the way, I don't think it would be considered "wildlife," because it is domesticated.

My last animal call was a polar bear by someone's shed.

LOL,Get used to it Keith. I have patented and perfected a method that i will share. I hurl the patrol car towards them while using the lights and the siren. Scares the crap out of them and they can't get back into the fence fast enough.

How exactly do you get rid of a polar bear?.....esp. considering he's looking at you and thinking 'happy meal'.....

Congrats on you new gig..!!! After 30 years you deserve a slower pace of life....

Funny thing.... We once had that same scenerio in Mission Division... damm cows in Sylmar Plus I still have those "Black Cowboys" cruising on horses on Western / Crenshaw. Plenty of livestock in the big city, you just have to know where to look

Ditto on new Rampart Station. Looks great!!! I was lucky enough to go with my buddy who works there.... so I didn't have to hunt for the latrine!!!
Yes I'm a LEO... but I do no care enough to go through the trouble of changing the screen name.... sorry
