Anyone know much about them? Pay, promotions, are they good to work for? I'm exploring all of my options here.

A guy I know who used to be a Captain at CCA said the Captains there make less money than what we make working for the Sheriff's Dept. So I can only imagine what they start you out at. lol I think it's a bad idea from what i've heard about them.

That's just my 2 cents... (A CCA Paycheck. LOL)

seriously, please look elsewhere. CCA is not a good place to work for. VERY low pay. you would make better money working for walmart. everything i hear about them is negative. you dont want to work there.

Only CCA facility that I know of that the COs make any money is at Leavenworth KS......due to a federal contract......

All other CCA places don't make jack......

Noob, if your looking for an opinion I can't help you. If you want info and advice stand-by. Most of your private prison operations offer low pay (just over min-wage), poor working conditions and few if any benefits. If you are in fact serious about Corrections contact the Florida Dept. of Corrections. They have Academy classes starting all the time and you get paid to go!!

I am not saying private corrections is the way to go, but Florida DOC is definetely not the way to go. First off, what are you looking to do? A career in corrections? A stepping stone to something else? Alot depends on your long term plans. I have worked private and public corrections i.e Florida DOC
and I can tell you neither is a picnic. If you have a decent background, credit, and driving record, I suggest applying to a Sheriff's Office to work in the jail.

remember - any port in a storm. i know the state is no picnic, but if nobody else around is hiring, then go with DOC. you can always apply elsewhere a few years down the road.

the important thing is that you will come out with great experience and time in the FRS. none of us are getting any younger...

Private corrections suck...run like the plague. 5yrs ago, when I worked for Wackenhut (before CCA took over), I was making $7.50 an hour. My friend who worked at the local Taco Bell was making the same amount and not risking his life every day.

After 6 months of being there, I quite and went to the county. Walked in the door making TWICE as much.
