I am just wondering about other states and new hires. Here in florida new hires are referred to as tea's for upto 6 months. Then goto the academy.Do the same job as certified officers but have no formal DT training and no gas.Alot of sergeants and officers let the tea's do everything which is good so they learn. But several times when a fight broke out they were defenseless until a certified officer was near.I was talking to a white shirt and proposed that new hires get "gassed" immediatly and at least goto a 2 week crash corse in dt.This way they can carry chemical agents and are aware of how to hopefully disarm a inmate if need be.He said good idea but it will never happen.

Meh, doesn't make sense to me. Why give them 75% of the training then put them out there where they can't fully support me when the poop hits the fan. Train them all the way, then have a good OJT program with supportive senior staff to mentor them and I believe a youngling will arrive much sooner.

But that's just my two cent's.

I agree thats another option. But the state doesnt want to partially train or even fully train until there sure thell work out and stay. But either way its dangerous. Most certified staff wont even train them.I do and get very fustrated at the ones that complain about the tea's but wont show them the right way, just complain.75% ? we go to a 5 month academy.

Seems like Florida would be opening themselves to liability issues if they don't allow some basics in. I worked for the BOP three months before going to official academy training. The only thing I didn't do was armed postings and positions of lead responsibility. If a fight broke out I was expected to assist.
