  • California Corrections Academy?

Is there anyone who recently went through the 16week academy program ?

I'm going to take the entry test this comming Thurs, and I would like as much info about the process and academy.

All i know is that i pass one test and immediatley go into another, 16 week academy is towards Sacramento.

I've been doing similar research. I found this on the CDCR website and it gives some insight into the academy.

www.pacovilla.com is chock full of CDCR info. in fact, there is a thread on the CDC forum started by a cadet that chronicles his 16 week adventure in the academy. it's interesting stuff and very well written.

note- upon visting the site the CDC forum will be invisible. you must register to use the site to have access to the CDC forum. hope that's helpful.

yes, it is a cdc forum/board. the thread is titled "I just Finished the First Week of the Academy and..."

again, the cdc forum/board does not appear before you are registered to use the site. i could post the link but not sure if it would be appropriate b/c of the condition i explained above.

let me know if you still need a hand.

good read, seems like there is more emphasis on academics than pt.

yeah, i noticed that as well. i think in a street cop environment there may be more emphasis on pt b/c of the possibilities of lengthy foot pursuits and various obstacles one may encounter in those pursuits. that may expalin why their academies are 6 months long to cover legal aspects and more thorough physical conditioning. an inmate doesn't really have very far to run.

                    correct me if i'm wrong...

Do you receive college credits for attending the CDOC Academy? If so, how many? Thank you. Do apologize for the change of subject.

Running in circles is about all an inmate can do. Where is he going to go? He will run into a wall, a gate or the loving arms of another CO. You need to be physically fit enough to run to the alarm and have enough energy left to subdue the inmate.

That being said the PT is a joke. You will leave the academy in the same shape you got there.
