While we've all encountered our share of gunslingers this was a first for me.

My facility sits about 30' off the road. Today around 1700 hrs we received a call from someone in the community who stated a inmate was standing along the front of the facility (road side) in full view of the public "shucking corn".

I checked the inmate's disciplinary record and it turns out he had a prior write up in 2/4/07 also for "shucking corn" in the dorm. Prior to that his last write up was in 2003, also for gunslinging.

I also checked his criminal history and he was not a KNOWN sex offender, however knowing that this type of sexual deviancy especially in one already with a criminal history suggest that he may have tendencies toward committing crimes of a sexual nature, I'll turn in a mental health form to have him evaluated by physiological staff.

My question to you is, what do you do when faced with similar? When it appears to be a wee bit more than just your average "I gotta rub one out" kinda thing.

WEll depends... if he seems like he enjoys it way to much I may call medical and/or write an MHR.
If it looks like hes about to "strip bark off the limb" I am gonna get him room in a MOO for the night.

We have an inmate, who just returned for the hundredth time to us again last week, who likes to do the "knuckle shuffle". This guy doesn't care who is watching he just gets busy with himself whenever he feels like it and he feels like it a lot. The first time he came in and "pulled" this kind of thing we had him evaluated but now we just keep him in a medical seg. cell and he's fine with it.
I think short of strapping his hands down we're not going to stop him so if he
pulls out from the root it's his own fault.

Had an inmate at one point, used to love to lay it out on his bean chute when the mednurse was on deck to pass him meds. We couldn't refuse his meds, so we had to open the chute.. Cpl was on deck one day, followed the nurse around.. when his crank came out, the Cpl shot it with a quick burst of OC.. never saw his cran out again..

We had a similar instance during summer with an inmate that liked to draw attention in the same manner. One of the LT's made the call for medical personnel and a member of CERT with a video camera to film the incident(nothing actually recorded) for a training film to be shown at the corrections academy on "Masterbating to an all-male audience, The effects of prison life and it's effect on the homosexual psyche in prisoners in the 21st century."

I don't think the inmate has been able to "shuck corn" since, and oddly enough no other inmates have made an attempt at public displays of self-gratification.

I did speak with our staff physiologist who agreed this behavior could suggest a tendency towards sexual crimes. While he was not a sex offender when she researched his medical history she discovered he had been deemed an "exhibitionist" in '97.

Been my experience that usually the other I/M's put the fool in check well before we're able to get him out with paper work.
