NYS CO Academy

Hello Everyone,
I start the NYS Corrections academy in 3 weeks and was hoping I could get some insight on what to expect? Also I just found out 2 day ago I have to live at the academy for 8 weeks (I guess it was a small detail they left out ) for what reason?

Curious, when are you guys going to our $25,100 starting salary? Is this the first class or have they fixed some future date for the new salary scale? I don't remember if the new contract is in effect yet or not.

I am not sure what nyc corrections are starting with but nys are starting with $28,444 for the first 6 months and after a year it becomes $34,742.
I have no clue what top pay is and I have been searching online to find out but no luck, maybe someone can post and fill me in.

I belive the pay scale tops out at $54,048 after 5 yrs of service for a regular CO.

Nys Corrections Staring Salary $34,329. OCT-26-2006

$34,329 - Hiring Rate upstate. ($39,081. downstate adjustment NYC ).
$ 200 - Lump sum paid after eight weeks of training +
$ 41,348 - After completion of 26 full bi-weekly payroll periods.
$3,025 annual downstate adjustment.
$1,727 pre-shift briefing.
you can make $46,100 after one year.

Appointees who work in the five boroughs of New York City or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland or Westchester Counties will receive an additional $3,025 annual downstate adjustment.

54k after 5 years??? ha ha ha ha I have 17.5 years and I don't make 54k yet without working a bunch of overtime! I believe the new "job rate" is going to be 47 or 49 with 7 years in.
