Word on the street out here in California is that Shane was fired for using too many capital letters.

We have certified County Correctional Officers here in IL. They however do not like to be referred to as Correctional Officers. Many avoid saying that they are correctional officers and instead say they are Peace Officer Deputy Sheriffs but it usually takes about 20 questions or so before Correctional Officers will admit that they work in the Jail.

Yes they are certified by the state , yes they have police powers, but are not certified Law Enforcement Officers.

There is for whatever reason an adverse reaction to telling law enforcement officers that they are correctional officers. They walk on eggshells and say, they are in law enforcement, then the sheriff's office then a Deputy Sheriff Peace Officer, and finally when pressed admit to working in the Jail.

Nothing wrong with working in corrections, but come on just admit that you do.

I have no problem saying what my job is to any police officer out there. I'm a sworn Federal Correctional Officer with full arrest powers(Peace Officer) and when on duty I have Federal Jurisdiction as to what duty I may be doing. If I take a con on a cross country escort my status is maintained where ever I am. I don't understand this whole your not a LEO you work in jail philosphy? You can all the cops you want, without us they cannot do their job, you can have all the guards you want without them I cannot do my job. Most of my budddies on the police end will be the first to say they could not do my job. It's time that both sides respected each other a little more, we are all dealing with the same pieces of garbage out there. I'll say right now we have a lot of dibblees but we cannot seem to hide them as well as the police, because I know just as many dibblee cops as I do C/O's. Anyways,

Take care All, C/O's and P/O's alike!

I was a C.O. for several years before I became a LEO. I respect CO's I just find it funny that here in my area the situation I described happens regularly.

Being a CO is a thankless job. We are all on the same side. The funny thing is that some CO's THINK we have a problem with them when there is none at all. The disrespect becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. They see slight in anything we do. If we ask what they do in the Sheriff's Office they get offended as it its some sort of slight to get them to admit that they work in the Jail. I consider it no different than someone asking me what I do on my department and where I work.

However If A Department Hires You As Deputy Sheriff That Agency Has To Law Enforecement Certify You In 2 Years . Some People Are Confused Because In Ga Deputy Sheriffs And Detention Officers Both Work In The Jail , And If A Deputy Works In The Jail He Is Also Required To Be Jailer Certified As Well As Law Enforcement Mandated . The Reason Some Sheriff Departments Will Not Hire Detention Officers Is Because They Fill ,That Is Just A Warm Body Filling A Uniform And Their Is Little Room For Advancement . But If You Hire Deputy Sheriffs The Skys The Limit , Plenty Of Room To Advance And Plus A Step Up In Pay. I Will Give You A Example The Bibb County Sheriffs Office In Macon Ga Hires Deputy Sheriffs , Uncertified Deputies In Bibb County Are Firearmed Certified And Issued Take Home Weapons The Morale Of The Department Is Good Theese Deputies Will Eventualy Be Mandated , In The Meanwhile They Know That Their Department Has Trust In Its Deputies . On The Other Hand We Have Fulton County Sheriff Office That Department Hires For The Majority Detention Officers To Work In The Jail No Requirment To Law Enforcement Certify Them , no Real Advancement , Morale Is Low And If You Watch The News On A Constant Basis You Will See How This Affects That Department . Maybe The State Of Georgia Should Look To Its Neighbor To The South , Their Are No Jailers In Florida The Jails Are Run By State Post Certified Corrections Officers A Title One Can Be Proud Of And A Lot Of Room For Advancement . Ga Should Do Away With All Jailers, And Detention Officers And Have Certified Corrections Officers To Run The Jails But Thats Just My Opinion .
I don't normally do this, but....jesus! What is the deal with your typing?? Try to type in clear sentences so people can understand what you are trying to say Also, I am a little confused...were you supposed to have the badge off duty or just in the prison when you were working and got wrongfully terminated?
For the cops out there: You are an adult. If you want to write someone, write them. If you don't want to write someone, then don't write them.

Ok you asked for it , maybe you should pay attention to what you are reading instead of worrying about how some is typing. Until you learn to research a topic before speaking or responding to it. View my profile and read all of my threads at that point you will know what happened to me. Until you do that please refrain from posting anything about me.

Thank you for at least typing like a normal peson. Unfortunately, I just read this thread and I really don't have the time or the interest in pursuing your life story or percieved grievances with the State of Georgia. I asked a question of you because the small part you posted here seemed a little suspect. If you don't want to answer...oh well!

I was just issued uniforms and gear for a new C/O position I am starting next week. I asked the supply clerk where I could buy a wallet badge. He told me that dept policy strictly forbid having a second badge or flashing your badge for personal gain ( getting out of traffic tickets) And that I would be attending an ethics class regarding the same. At my present job the Warden told everyone to get a second badge so they could identify themselves as officers if they needed to.
