  • MD Doc.. INFO NEED PLEASE

Long story short, I will be applying to a few police departments here in Maryland in the near future, but for some reason, I feel like a career in corrections might suit me better. The only down side to Maryland's DOC, in my opinion, is the 35,000 starting salary. With that being said, I have a few questions about getting that salary to something respectable. First of all, is overtime easy to come by, seeing as the turnover rate here is incredibly high? Secondly, how hard is it to advance in the DOC? Do promotions go to the officer with the most seniority in the department, the qualified hard worker, or do you have to play the office politics game?

Any knowledgeable feedback would be most appreciated, and thanks for reading.

What is that "some reason" you think Corrections would be a career that would suit you better?

I am not all that knowledgeable about Maryland but there are some on

www.prisonofficer.org and you might find help there
Since some people need to be told by notes in crayon .......Don't PM me with without prior permission. If you can't discuss the situation in the open forum ----it must not be that important

I'm not 100% sure why. I grew up and currently play basketball, in a somewhat bad area, and I feel like I'm an expert in talking to and handle those career criminals types. Plus after reading through a couple of threads, I feel like I have all the intangibles needed like thick skinned, sharp and alert, mentally and physically tough, etc etc... Also, I like the fact that when I leave the prison I'm a normal person, and I wouldn't have the off-duty responsibility a police officers has

and thanks I've been to officer.org a couple of times before but its not very active but I will post this on there too.

I have written a book called KISSED BY MY ENEMIES. It is about my 13 years as an Officer for Texas an Arizona. BARNES & NOBLE click my name (Will Ballew)search. Best book on corrections you'll ever read, Guaranteed.

I actually give you props for some things you have said. Most will not have the balls to say they are not ready to be a cop. So for you to say you may not have the "responsibility"...A plus.

Now, to say you feel you are "thick skinned, etc" just by reading these forums...yeah...not good. As one posted suggested, Read those books. Or better yet. Go for a tour in a couples of the jails around Maryland. Maryland DOC are pretty tough and that will maybe open your eyes up to see if you are even ready or want to even attempt corrections. Growing up/playing b-ball in an area doesn't make one fit for a job. Just saying...
