Still waiting for an interview offer. HR at FDC SeaTac told me that I was on the GL5 and GL6 best qualified list, and that they'd most likely be contacting me for an interview in a couple weeks. That was about five weeks ago.
Wondering if I should update my application and list a different institution as my #1 or #2 choice, to throw my hat in the ring somewhere else. I never heard back from FCI Dublin about whether they were still looking to hire (it was my #2 preference location on USAJobs).

Yeah, I saw that vacancy too. I want to get in to a covered position before age 36/37, but Dublin would be tough financially. I'd probably take a 2/3 paycut once factoring in the cost of living difference.

Winter_Patriot, federal gov't pay is increased for designated high cost-of-living areas, including San Francisco. I currently work at a facility receiving "Rest of the US" (RUS) pay, i.e., not in a designated area with high cost of living. If I transferred to Dublin, my pay would automatically jump 22%.
Here's the Office of Personnel Management webpage with Law Enforcement Officer payscales. Each designated area with high cost of living is specified by name. It also includes the payscale for RUS.

Thanks for the link, will check it out. My worry was always whether or not the 22% locality pay would make up for how much more expensive it is to live in some of those places. But it's relative depending on where you're coming from. I was looking at the Seattle locality pay and it seems to help, but still wish it was more (I already live in Seattle area).

Most people that work at Dublin live in the valley and drive an hour or more to work. They also have staff housing but you have to go on a wait list and wait for someone to move out of there. Can't live in the Dublin area on that salary.

Hey so I interviewed at the Miami location about 5 weeks ago passed the cva and written tests and did the panel interview and now just silence. Was wondering if anyone knew how much longer the wait will be to hear anything back and if so what’s the next step

Called my local BOP facility to sort out why I hadn't heard anything. HR was very nice and informed me I was listed under "best qualified" but I applied around the time they had a hiring board or something? So my app fell thru thr cracks. Either way I was told to reapply to the new job announcement on OCT 1, got a generic email about that too, and once they meet ill be contacted. Wish I did this earlier this year!

nonotnow You have to be Beat Qualified ao make sure thats what she ment. There is a difference between a BQ and simply qualified rating as only qualified you wont make the cut
Yes BOP gets locality pay. Most are rest of US pay but several are more. Houston is (or was) the highest paid localiry
-
As said above yes there are locality areas. I'm on a WS scale in a rest of the US area but WS has a locality pay here and gs/gl doesnt.
-
I wonder if a similar thing happened to my app. I listed FDC SeaTac as my first choice and emailed HR. They said I was on the best qualified list for GL-5 and GL-6, and that they'd be pulling my name from the list soon for an interview. I followed up with them once or twice and they said that was still the plan. Almost a month now since I've heard anything. Then I saw the USAJobs email about applying for the next job announcement. I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Unfortunately after the panel interviews and passing all the tests I see an update on usajobs saying not hired. Sucks. Didn’t get an email though but is usajobs usually accurate with that kinda stuff

Locality pay is not based on the cost of living in a given area. It is based on the cost of labor for an area. For example the Detroit area has a high locality pay due to union and skilled jobs in the area used as comparisons. Other areas get shorted due to a low cost labor market. Often though the higher costs of living areas usually are also higher wage areas.
The DOD figures the WG, WS wages. I think that OPM does the GS and GL rates.

Withdrew my application. Never heard back about an interview anyway. Found other 6c covered employment. I think I would have liked BoP a lot though.

US Probation Officer job, which I am happy about. I really did like the idea of BoP though, especially the ability to move between locations. I just couldn't get an interview, even though HR told me that they'd be pulling my name from the list. It was at an institution too that was doing hiring bonuses, so they needed to hire people. Would have taken the job in a heartbeat too at the time just to stop the age timer (I'm 34).Last edited by Winter_Patriot; 09-22-2020, 12:22 AM.
