    As Rmodel stated, you have to be rated "BQ" to get referred for an interview. You need to reapply and tweak your job experience. Articulate the best you can without lieing.

    • Does Grand Prairie decide if your application is bq? Or is it based on the assessment during your application, the reason I ask is because last year when I got referred my initial assessment was rated highly qualified but still got an interview. However this year when I reapplied I got best qualified during the assessment

        When you apply everything goes through Grand Prairie. As far as interviews you should only get referred if you are BQ'd. Not sure the circumstances but you should have not been contacted with anything other than a BQ. SNAFUs do happen though. They use the Monster app so basically a computer looks fo key words and phrases. That's how they come up with the rating. So a lot of times what determine a BQ from a HQ or Q is bit the experience but how one articulates or words that experience. Fluff it up as much as you can WITHOUT lieing.

        The good thing about applying when your trying to come in is new folks get to see right away if they BQ or not. When your in the system and out in for say your GS 8 or anything else you won't see if you BQ'd til after the closing date. So if you don't you have to wait til next time to tweak your app to try and BQ losing any chance for promotion.

              I can't. I look at the choices and my work experience really does not justify me choosing the answers that could put me in the BQ category, otherwise I would be lying and I don't want to do that. Not to vent but even for what seems like an entry level job, they still want experience doing the exact same thing elsewhere. The catch-22 rears its head yet again.

                This is how you tweak it. You word your job experience narrative (aka articulate it) but use some wording that is within the KSA questions. Keep doing it (without lieing) and you should within a couple try's have it down to be rated as a BQ

                If you think this is a challenge wait til you try for your GS 8 or 9 and 11 LT. Gets more complicated

                      Or Rec Specialist. You could have 2 million hours of coaching and setting up recreational activities, along with every Personal Training cert in the world and still not BQ..lol

                        • Hope my news is incorrect, but last week we were told ALL Bureau hiring of external candidates is still frozen. This despite how we're short at my place of several department heads, dozens of Correctional Officers, doctors/dentists/nurses, etc. How is an airplane missing part of a wing and one engine supposed to fly?

                          The only thing currently taking place is internal transfers of BOP employees who got promoted or selected for a lateral position change.

                            Yeah I really don't get it, between April and May alone we've lost 4 officers and the only way we haven't been crushed by mandatory OT is constant augmentation from other departments. Of course the only things that have opened on usajobs is for wardens and a gs12 HR.....then they wonder why officer morale is so low. From the looks of it even internal transfers to other institutions have been stopped, I have a buddy whose been waiting to transfer to Atl for the last 2 months and already filled out his paperwork

                              they posted the first lateral yesterday that was a senior officer position it was for Williamsburg

                                Mentioned this earlier. My Warden stated (and a friend that's an AW in a different region backed it up) that they can hire off the street however before that can happen the Manning has to get down into the 89% range. As far as laterals that is a win win as the gaining institution gets someone already through Glynco and can work almost any post (talking custody) and BOP pays no money for moves.

                                As far as other moves etc they are vouching folks out for LT and Capts postions. But they have added a couple steps. Before after the gaining region signed off on the selection then the person was contacted.

                                Now after that before the person is notified the region has to send everything to Central Office and the Director has to review everything money wise.

                                BOP spends a lot of $$ on paid moves. The spreadsheet for a couple with no kids if they stay in temp housing and pir diem the whole 60 days allowed and movers it comes to $89,000 and that's not counting the home sake program (Brookfield the contract company are crooks so good luck)

                                So they have put more oversights on it.
