The problem is even with the Heller and McDonald case look at Chicago and DC. They went from nothing to being able to purchase but those folks now have to jump through hoops much like NY.

If you have the money and resources since those cases are not cheP (and the NRA hasn't even stepped up) go for it
My wife wanted to move to Ny area, not happening, I'm very happy to hang my hat here in Bama. Trust me I know about hoops, when I was stationed in SOCAL. I refuse even as Law Enforcement to live in anti-gun states.

So NYPD issues you a HOME PREMISES permit, where it says you are restricted from carrying, unless in a lock box to the range, with ammo seperated. And you use that firearm to conceal carry under HR218, ignoring the restrictions on your permit? There is no such thing as a CCW permit in NYC. So this would be the only way? I spoke to someone a while back, who use to work for BOP in NYC and she told me she use to carry off duty, owned multiple firearms she bought in NY, and even carried on planes. Was she just Bull-****ting?

Is there any BOP COs n NYC in here that can explain?

You are allowed to carry under LEOSA on your credentials. But to purchase a firearm you have to jump through your local ordinances to purchase. As funny as it is LEOSA only allows you to carry permit less so to speak it does not circumvent any requirements of local jurisdictions on buying.

And since BOP does not require you to carry off duty they are not on giving you any help, letterhead etc.

It even goes on about that if you read the link in Salkyport on LEOSA you are only subjected to the local jurisdiction on purchasing requirements etc.

If you can legally buy the firearm you can carry per LEOSA. It doesn't matter what NYC says. As pointed out before LEOSA is a federal law.

        Good luck

        • Just wondering.

I am in the hiring process and my status on USA jobs has been changed to hired.

I have completed every step, EQUIP, UA, Physical, Interviews and I have been given a conditional offer of employment.

I was wondering if there is a certain timeline to expect a firm offer of employment (is it sitting on the wardens desk?) or if any of you know of a current hiring freeze at this time.

It has been about 2 weeks since I submitted my EQUIP (last thing I had to send in) and My status was changed to hired on usa jobs 1 week ago.

It can very, if they are bring a large class on they could be trying to Colorado date that works for everyone (to try and do just one IF class) so it can vary.

The GOV is under CR or Continuing Resolution which means there is no hiring freeze. Yes they watch monies a little more closely but there is no hiring freeze, paid moves for those that promote GS 9 Supervisory and above etc.

I would call the HR specialist you felt with and touch base. They are the ones that know your institutions specifics etc.

            Good Luck

Actually Nypd does issue an unrestricted permit, they are VERY hard to get. As Shooter and I pointed out. The permit is "Only" required so you can purchase, you may finds a gun shop willing to allow you to purchase on our creds.

LEOSA allows you to carry. Leosa don't allow us to carry on commercial aircraft. So I call BS on that, I've carried on commercial flight, and there are a ton of procedures, from obtaining our unique agency Id number from TSA, the paperwork has to be sent via NLETS, also have completed TSA flying while armed course. It's faster and easier to just check it with the airline.

This may help, I'm advising you to seek legal advice to clarify... So in Ny, pursuant to Nys CPL section 2.15 bop are classified as peace officer's, section 400 of the CPL allows gun dealers to sell firearms to persons exempted per CPL 265.20. You would need clarification regarding the wording of the statue.

                CPL section 400.
Before delivering a firearm to any person, the licensee shall require him to produce either a license valid under this section to carry or possess the same, or proof of lawful authority as an exempt person pursuant to section 265.20. In addition, before delivering a firearm to a peace officer, the licensee shall verify that person's status as a peace officer with the division of state police. After completing the foregoing, the licensee shall remove and retain the attached coupon and enter in the record book the date of such license, number, if any, and name of the licensing officer, in the case of the holder of a license to carry or possess, or the shield or other number, if any, assignment and department, unit or agency, in the case of an exempt person. The original transaction report shall be forwarded to the division of state

265.20 Exemptions. a. Paragraph (h) of subdivision twenty-two of section 265.00 and sections 265.01, 265.01-a, subdivision one of section 265.01-b, 265.02, 265.03, 265.04, 265.05, 265.10, 265.11, 265.12, 265.13, 265.15, 265.36, 265.37 and 270.05 shall not apply to: 1. Possession of any of the weapons, instruments, appliances or substances specified in sections 265.01, 265.02, 265.03, 265.04, 265.05 and 270.05 by the following: (a) Persons in the military service of the state of New York when duly authorized by regulations issued by the adjutant general to possess the same. (b) Police officers as defined in subdivision thirty-four of section 1.20 of the criminal procedure law. (c) Peace officers as defined by section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law. (d) Persons in the military or other service of the United States, in pursuit of official duty or when duly authorized by federal law, regulation or order to possess the same.

Most institutions that are medium or high you have to be off probationary status. There are a couple that you don't have to be however before you can take an armed trip you have to complete armed BPT class. BPT = Basic Prisoner Transfer
