They do but someone wanting to lateral is a wardens dream. They get a staff member that can work most any post they do t have down time sending g them to Glynco or training g them up so if Jesus is where you want I would talk to your AW and let them help. BOP is all about folks moving around

Per OPM regs if a holiday falls on your regularly scheduled day off, your holiday becomes your last scheduled workday, so if when I 1st came into the Gov I worked for the Marine Corps as a 0083, I was schduled off Sun, Mon Tues, so my holiday reverted to "Sat" and if I worked on Sat it was "HG" holiday graded(pay code)8 regular time + 8hrs holiday pay, and if I wanted it off it was"HE" holiday excused it's 8 straight hours. when I transferred to Navy, I was off Mon, Tues so in that case "Sunday" became my holiday and I had the same two choices. hope that helps and

I explained it this way because the "HE" is important to know in incase you wanted a 3 day weekend when holiday fell on your days off or you had to bang in.

You go to GL 7 automatically and your steps are automatic to step 10. You get your first 4 every year, I believe 567 are every 2 and 89 and 10 every 3 year however with a yearly evaluation of Outstanding g you can get a Quality Step Increase QSI and get the next step right then. To get your GL 8 you have to compete and have your 7 for a year.

As far as maxing out not sure if you do everything right about 7 years. If not then 14 ish

(Disclaimer, my numbers could be off on the steps since it's been a while for me and I have forgot some but they should be pretty close)

That is the correct time frame. I was a GS-05 Step 5 prior to my transfer to BOP and I was 3 months away from GS-05 step 6.

BOP does not have SGT's. An 8 as stated is a senior officer specialist. They run the institution. You are suppose to be able to work every post as an 8 but as many as they have promoted way to quick lately that isn't always the case.

You have to apply and compete for an 8 and when the 8 promotions are announced the butt hurt gets epic!!!

You have to ha E tour 8 for a year before you can apply for a GL 9 LT (unless you don't want to take your lumps in custody go to rec get your 9rec specialiat and come back to custody as a 9 LT which makes you not a good LT)

                          • With your salary plus OT, which they have plenty of, you can do alright for yourself. Or you can live in NJ right over the border it's even cheaper over there.
