  • So, I received a conditional offer...great right? Well, I'm currently in a state CO academy, and physical, U/A, prints are scheduled during an academy day. I can miss a day in the event of emergency...outside of my perception, this is not an emergency. I know when the facility plans on beginning next class as we discussed my situation--approx. 4 weeks after my last day. Offer went out Wed., I wasn't able to speak with HR til Friday--no tech at academy. Sent an email asking if this can be rescheduled after my academy, but I'm pretty sure I know the answer. Either way, I cannot lie to state about missing a day next week as I am sure that will end up bad on both ends. Anyways, thought I would share my misery for your humor!

Actually they can be pretty accommodating. Your academy probably isn't THST long so just ask about rescheduling

Thanks for reply. I hope so, scheduled for this Monday...no choice, so I reached out to my specialist to see if something can be worked out.

Just about everyone who hired on within the last month or so(27) came from the state. Their reason better pay and bennies with BOP.

From an 8 to GS 11 is not much better than that. BUT if you want no control over your schedule, shifts, job etc or have an inflated ego you need padded not to mention the countless *** chewing for handling what you were told to handle and getting g filed on by coward staff members wanting free money claiming you didn't call them for SHU#1 or dry cell when they haven't worked I side the fence for 4 of their 5 years in then 11 LT or 12/13 Captain is all theirs.

Also look at retirements. There is almost zero staff that retire as a Captain. They either have enough and step down as a LT or weather enough storms to make AW.
GL-8/10 pay is about 60k. GS-11/10 is about 77k. That's about 7.5 hours of OT per week as a GL-8 to make up the difference.

The pension difference will be about 6600 per year, at 25 years. That's only $550 per month, but it's $550 per month until you die!

Everyone is going to have to make up their own mind on what's worth what. Some people are content with less responsibility and a decent pay, some want to be at the top.

Your numbers are a little inflated. They are also based off the presumption that one is maxed out and an 11 LT. That is a hard feat. Supervisor Evans are more complex and you do y get the QSI that one sees line staff get.

In the real way most are GS 11 step 6-8 You will get more like 75-100 a month difference. If your loss of holidays and weekends and picking your shift as well as loss if any social not family life for 100 dollars or so then more power to anyone that wants it.

That's why I'm looking at Gigs outside the BOP...GS-13 non supervisory is my target.

I don't think those are inflated, they're pretty accurate to the stepped out rates.

If neither got any QSI, it would take 18 years to step out. Either way, with 25 years, they'd both be stepped out long ago.

                  Right?

You can be a stepped out 8step 10 you go to a 9 9 then say you pick up an 11 that places you at 11 step 4. Most folks that are fast burners would not be maxed out and even if they made their 11 LT in 5 years would start out at 11 step 1 . I have seen that then myself I went as a 13 year maxed out GS8 to a 9 9 LT then an 11 step 4. The way they do Evans you would be well pressed to get 11 step 10 up without putting in 25 years I. OR an understanding Warden. Out of 27 LT's at my place only 4 have gotten QSI's the last 3-4 years.

                        • I keep hearing more about this new uniform rumor. I was told today by the brass at my joint that "at some point in 2017", we will be switching to dark gray BDUs with a stripe and black shirts, very similar to Massachusetts DOC. Anyone else wanna chime in?

Funny how things come back. 10 years ago the administration couldn't wait to change the uniform and do away with the "Nickle Grey's" worn by some staff as well as the grey pants and white shirts worn by all staff. Only to Now after all these years go back to something Grey. I could give two s+-'s but leave it to BOP
