  • Thanks. I scrolled down the page and saw that you answered the same question earlier. Thanks for answering again. I'll try my luck with FW, looking to stay local if possible.

Don't discount Carswell (it's a med center and they generally have more spots) and Seagoville southeast of Dallas as well.

            • To guys and gals trying to get hired. If you are calling HR folks and not getting any answers, if you email the regional office of where you are trying to apply with who you are trying to contact they should get back to you with info.

Would that email be the execassistant email on the facilities page? If not where can we find an email address for a regional office?

                • Yeah I used the execassistant one.

I emailed the regional HR recently and they were very responsive to my questions. The lady who replied was kind and followed up but she didn't seem to know the answer to my question.

I was trying to figure out what institutions are doing direct hires for vets and how to apply for them. I was also trying to understand the following quote from their website:

Did you know that you can apply for a position and be hired, even if you still have military service left? Please call 972-352-4200 or email the staffing section to learn more about exciting employment opportunities with the Bureau of Prison.

After reading this entire thread and searching the web a little, I came to the conclusion I have to apply to the open announcement and hope I get hired before my EAS (ETS for you army guys).

If you qualify for a VRA appointment or you are a 30% or more disabled vet, I would contact the institution you are interested in and ask them the procedure to apply non-competitively under VRA or as a 30% or more disabled vet. If you are a 30% or more disabled vet, use that before bringing up VRA as many HR specialists don't understand VRA or non-competitive appointments in general.

I have been in supervision classes at a Regional office and the Regional HR person (not the head one but still a GS 13-14) and they were clueless on several issues. One in particular I had to politely correct her that a union rep was a requirement IF the employee wanted one they could not be forced to provide an afadavit or be interviewed for an OIA or anything else.

There can be ineptness even by specialists in their own fields.

I think they are going to go away, (with around the clock number 2's being implemented ) when I was at Pollock, we had 16's, as a number 2. I had it for a qtr.. Sat Sun 6-10 and Mon center tower(A/M). Tues - Fri off... oh how I miss the 16's.

They can't. The #2's are mandated by Congress and most USP's only had them from 2-10 before June. And from 6a-10p on weekends and Holidays.
