    "Parolees often become repeat offenders"

On July 10, 2008, Robert Lee Shine was paroled from prison.Robert L. ShineHe had served exactly three years, the bare minimum of two concurrent sentences: three to 30 years for receiving and concealing stolen property, three to five years for...

Top notch, hard digging reporting there.

Last I checked -----------------in order to be a repeat offender, you had to have been convicted at least one time before!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly Michigan is in the process of closing prisons, laying off CO's, and in general speeding up the process of dumping felons back into our communities.

Just about everyone in Muskegon knows the Muskegon Correctional Facility is closing soon, barring an eleventh-hour deal to house inmates from Pennsylvania. Some of the impacts are pretty clear: a much-needed savings in the strapped state budget; a much-dreaded loss of...

Also, on that above link, check out some of the comments posted by a few ungrateful sheeple. Specifically the ones who say that CO's have lavish pay and benefits. IIRC 8 to 10 years ago you couldn't find enough brave citizens who wanted to be MI CO's, and now some of these sheep have the nerve to criticize CO's for having health insurance.

My blood pressure pretty much requires that I do NOT read comments posted about online news stories....................................Most people don't even read the entire story then comment on their stupidity. They seem to become stupider (I know that isn't a good word but it fits) when they try to understand public policy and the way government works.

Iowa is now in the same boat, except we are NOT closing prisons nor are we doing early outs for the thugs====================we are just laying off staff. Lots of staff

Most, if not all of the people that flap their ballwashers about C.O pay and benefits are people that wouldn't do our job if they were hired on the spot and told they didn't even have to attend the academy. I have no sympathy for any of them and simply tell them that the Civil Service exams are open to the public and if they are so jealous of what I make then take the test and shut their man pleasers.....

I think these people in our state that think we get paid to much should come in side for a 8 hr shift to see what kinds of piles of crap we deal with on a daily basis. Then come talk to me about pay and benifits. This is the same old crap from liberil Michigan... Alot of people in this state dont have jobs, I'm lucky i got a good one, dont hate on us. Like Willard said they could have applyed to the dept.
