For the test questions: You have an initial test, then a remedial test. If you fail the second test, you are dropped.

Firearms is different: You have an initial, a reshoot, and a remedial shoot.

PT is age based, goes by decades. Not the hardest PT standard, but people are typically dropped for sit-ups. You are allowed an initial PT test and one remedial.

I believe the PT test is still conducted at week 4. But if you show up not able to pass, doubtful you’ll pass after four weeks of PT.

ALSO, I believe we are about to implement annual PT tests at all VA’s.

For the DACP Academy (same cert.), they do NOT list the firearms qual anywhere, they want it a surprise. We did their qual AND stress shoots

        Yes.

You shoot a firearm at a target and get scored.
Now go home and get your shine box!

They use the q target. You need to shoot 80% Pass/Fail.

Thank you for being professional and giving me a professional response! Unlike the person who first responded to my question!

This is one of those times where it really is better to go in with an ‘empty cup’. It’s not the hardest qualification course but you need to pay attention if you’re not familiar with pistol quals. You’ll shoot from the 5, 7, 15 and 25 yard lines.

As for the PT requirements; I can’t remember them off the top of my head, but for my age group (20-29) I can pass the 1 mile run with a speed walk if I wanted, the sits ups are around the 40+, and pushups are in the 30+ range. Don’t stress the PT test, just exercise on your own.

Do u know the course of fire? Any extra points/recognition given if one shoot perfect or high score combined?

Course of fire is as explained above. No real reward for shooting better as you can only miss 10 out of 50.

Practice tight shot groups at the 7 then work your way out to the 15. Also, put some practice into single hand firing with both hands. You’ll be fine.

You might have to call the academy or the VA that hired you. Only the Officers have access to the training list. So someone on here that works there can tell you the dates if they really wanted to. You can also check out the facebook page. and try to find someone on there.

No one has answered the PT question. What type of PT occurs during the academy? Daily runs? Push up's, sit up's?

When I went, PT was done after class. it alternated between running and circuit training. and it was every other day. it didn't last more than a hour. the longest run was 2 miles and the shortest run was 1 mile.

Will do!! Thank you!! I've received a conditional offer and completed all the steps, but I'm waiting on my psychological interview results. Any idea how long that typically takes?? It has been a week since I did my psych interview.

I got hired about 7 months after i interviewed for the job. It depends on the VA

        • #41
Oh ok, thank you for the reply! I guess I just have to remain patient. HR said the psych results aren't sent to them directly and that it usually takes a couple of weeks for the entire file (including psychological results) to be sent to them from Occupational Health.
