Not all men can be U.S. Marines that is why there is the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Where did you get an offer? I keep getting referred for consideration and then not hearing anything more for most locations.

            • Just started today at 29 palms. They're very understaffed. I hear the next academy will be in October.

              • Hi everyone I have two questions about the MCCLEP job..

                1. Does anyone know if you can use VA education benefits for OJT/BAH with the job?
                2. What do you do on a daily basis working while you wait to go to the academy?

                Thanks for any info!

                  1. Yes you can as long as your installation has been added, in 29 palms case it has cause I did the paperwork and used it my first year.
                  2. Depends on the installation at 29 I was a ride a long for 3 months while others sat a gate at Pendleton you go through a pre service and ride the gate

                1. No, I don't believe so.
                2. That would largely depend on what base you work on.

                  • Hey guys. So I recently applied to MCAS Yuma for a civilian Police Officer position. My ultimate goal is to pursue a career in law enforcement or federal law enforcement. I am currently working in corrections and have done so for quite some time but I noticed the pay grade is extremely low for the recent MCAS Yuma announcement. Would you guys say the transition and pay cut is worth it? How is the work/life balance? Do their credentials equate to those at FLETC? Are you granted federal employee status say in any event you are interested in applying within DoD or other agencies? Is this a sworn position despite being considered civilian?

Overall, I just want to weigh out the pros and cons if I decide to leave my position and if the drastic pay cut is worth it, including relocation.

                    • Its is sworn position however it does not fall under federal LEO retirement. It is standard fed retirement. Once your in the fed system it makes it easier to move around. Some spots on usajobs are fed or former fed spots. They can even be agency or location exclusive openings.

They should match your current pay as best as possible if you give them a current pay stub but dont quote me on that.

                      • It is under leosa. Aka you get creds and wallet badge to carry off duty.

Arrests are fairly minimal compared to municipal.

Its not very "run and gun" if thats what you re looking for but after 3 years you are a permanent fed employee and can make a special agent spot somewhat easier.

                        • Thanks Jond36 for the quick reply. I am just a little-concerned being that they are only offering as a GS 4-5 which is like 30k. I was informed it is not negotiable too. That'ss why I am trying to figure out if its worth the cut and change.

Been with them 3yrs. Nope, it's not. I'd stay put.

                        • I am fine with that but in order to be granted federal employee status, you need 3 years of federal employee experience minimum? I thought once your in, your in, no matter the amount of time spent

                          • 3 years makes you "permanant" rather than conditional. Most LE fed agencies will take you if you have 3 years good conduct as a police officer etc. You do not have to stay three years. Your chances / odds increase after 3 years.

Well if they dont negotiate its really up to you. Put it this way though, if you start GS-5 you make GS-6 the following year and GS-7 in 2 years. GS-7. Around here is a 45,000 bare minimum at step 1. FTO is usually GS-8 and so on
