Wear your vest!

It kills me to see my Fellow SP's, MP's and civilian military leo's still not wearing their ballistic vests. WEAR THEM!! Especially after Ft Hood.

Wow, what dept does not issue vests or make them mandatory?? I would think for insurance and liability reasons every department would make them mandatory. Any officer who is on the road and chooses not to wear their vest is plain stupid, i make no qualifications to this statement.

I can name you many an military department that does not issue, or require the wearing of ballistic vests by its members. I recall this being a large issue with the CNRMA and CNRSW officers in the IBPO contract negotiations. The position of the Navy management was "We will let you know when you need a vest, what level (they only wanted to issue level II vests) and when they need to be replaced."

Needless to say I was shocked to hear that from any manager in a police department.

Luckily they made it a requirement here to wear it, of course everyone doesn't see the point, cause "nothing happens"

We wear them as well - they are required. However, the boss can say 'its too hot today, no vests!'

BUY YOUR OWN. It is a small price to pay, and it is TAX DEDUCTIBLE.

Cant afford it, do some ot, get a loan from a family member, ask someone to buy it for X-mas, Birthday, whatever.

Think about the pain and suffering it could save you later.

If you get shot in the vest you're looking at a day in the hospital, maybe.

If you get shot, and you're not wearing a vest, you could be in the hospital for days, or weeks, or worse.

The MPs and DA officers out at Fort Irwin wear theirs, even in 120 degree weather. I don't know how they got theirs, but the vests are worn religiously. Good on them!

We are required to wear vests here but the vests they issued to us barely stop 9mm rounds and that's it. They are old pieces of crap. I guess it makes us feel safe though...

at charleston they make it mandatory....it wasn't at my previous base though.

Ft Lewis requires the wear of a vest at ALL times on patrol regardless of heat index or limitations of the officer. No vest = no patrol.
