This looks more like a AT/FP position than a chief. If this is the head of the LE mission, it is a bad idea to have 0080's in charge of 0083's unless it is at the combined DES agency level.

The more interesting thing here is that lack of NSPS in such a position.

The only reason I say chief is because of that line. The VA and navy use 0080 as chiefs and security officers, no reason why the army cant. Also the PM at Ft. Hamilton is an 0080.

Seems like a low pay grade if he is to be the chief.

Just goes to show you that some installations have security as their primary focus and some have law enforcement.

Thats a physical security position but it seems odd that they would be over law enforcement.

Well as of Wednesday, NSPS stands for No Such Pay System
By signing the defence bill, Obama killed NSPS, depending on when the PD was dated, it very well may have been after the mandate to no longer use the NSPS in clasifying positions.

Not a Chief position. ... "You will be responsible TO the Chief," (not as the chief)

just another gs-11, position, I would guess that the chief is a Military officer @ the rank of Colonel, or BG, AT LEAST.

Suspect that as well with the DES Director being the LTC and the other spots going elsewhere.... Just like it is most other places....

                        GS-0080 as Chief

First for those who have not tried to classify a GS-0083 as an 11 or higher it may be something you research. To create these positions with accurate and specified duty required in accordance with the OPM Classification Guide for 0083/0085's is a challenge. There are many DES's that use GS-0080 Security Administration Career Field personnel in positions as functional chiefs, deputy directors, and even directors of DES's. While not fair the primary issue is that 0083's have glass ceilings that make it hard to classify a police officer at grades of 11 and above. If you were to check FASCLASS on the CPOL website for Army Personnel you would find there are only 52 total Pay Band 2 and 9 total Pay Band 3 police officers in the Army and there are no GS-14 or GS-15's.

We use 0301 for our Chief/Deputy Chief..... One Assistant Chief went to 0083 but the paybaned him. Not sure what will happen once we go back to the old GS System......

I've seen a lot of places going to 0301 for Chiefs....

And yes....Garrison Commander can Arm them just like a 0083....

0301? Like as in paper pusher? Sounds like OPM needs to do an audit of the grading.

GS-0301 - Miscellaneous Administration and Program Series

This series includes positions the duties of which are to perform, supervise, or manage two-grade interval administrative or program work for which no other series is appropriate. The work requires analytical ability, judgment, discretion, and knowledge of a substantial body of administrative or program principles, concepts, policies, and objectives.

IMCOM is doing it a lot for DES/Assistant DES Directors.......As you can make them a 14/15 depending on the position...... 0083 doesn't go that high from what we have been told. 0080 does.....but not 0083...
