    $&%#* GI Bill...

    I submitted my GI Bill paperwork with the rest of my class the first week of July. They received my paperwork July 13th. All of the other vets in my class have already received three payments... I'm still waiting on my first...

    When I call, the oh so very helpful staff (sarcasm) tell me that they have received the paperwork and that it'll take 6-8 weeks for it to process... when I do the math for them and tell them it's past that time frame, they tell me it'll get here when it gets here...

    I've "asked" about my issue on the VA website a few weeks ago and have yet to receive any info... I've gone to my SGT (as he's the VA rep for the academy) and he's called and they've given him the same run around...

    Short of contacting a member of Congress... any other ideas of what to do to find out what the hell is going on?

      It took me awhile to get mine, I was one of the last in my class but you still have me beat. The good thing was I got a payment for all the way from day 1 of the academy until I got my first check, like 3 months. Twas nice.

          One positive is the fact that it'll be a big check when I finally get it....

              Got to love back pay. I am getting ready for the headache of trying to get my soon to be wife the Post 9-11 benefits. She starts her senior year next fall and your Post 9-11 GI Bill dependents benefits have to be approved by the DA then they forward that paperwork to the VA office. Getting two departments to co-op? Are they freakin serious? Did anyone who came up with the process accually try to go through the system before?

                  I'm waiting on my pre 911 GI Bill for OJT and I've been waiting since May. I submitted my paperwork in May! They owe me a crapload of back pay now. I'd be nice if I actually get it sometime before the world ends in 2012.

                  I googled it and it seems that they're like 100,000 applications backlogged. Its clear that they're overloaded. I'm to the point where I'm already budgeting on not even getting anything.

                      I think that is the point...make it SO HARD to actually get the benefit you earned and most will get so frustrated with the process that they will give up trying. Thus never obtaining the benefit in the first place, saving the GOV millions of dollars in the process.

                      It is tragic how many veterans I've met in the past that had purchased the GI Bill but never used it. This is another reason why the GI Bill has a shelf life. Anyway I feel the pain; it was a nightmare when I used my GI Bill for the first time.
                      Go back to where ever you came from, smoke a fatty, and sing Kum-Ba-Yah with Osama Bin Laden. Hopefully you will find the Communist Utopia you so desire.

                          They should be able to tell you the status of the paperwork, the projected payment, and projected date it Will be sent/deposited. here is my trick to get some one who has a clue, go online and find the local numbers, dial one of the numbers that is close to but not quite what you want, when you speak with that person tell them you have been on the phone all morning and the last person Betty (thats the name I use) transfered you to this extension, then go in to what you need. they Will tell you you have the wrong department, but to hold on they will connect you to some one in the department that can help, in a few minutes you are talking to some one who knows what is going on and can give you the info you need.......................make sure you get there name and extension. I use this trick all the time and it has worked like a charm.
                          It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

                              Good trick. I'm going to try it, as the people I always speak to can only tell me that they have the paperwork and I'll get my payment eventually...

                                  I'm not sure if you're aware but the VA will allow an emergency advancement of up to $3000.00. I haven't received my payment yet either (and I quit my job just go to school), so I've been hurtin' a little, just getting by. You can either apply online for this check (and the check will be sent to you in the mail) or you can go to your local VA office (which is what I'm doing on Tuesday) to pick up your check. Go to the VA website and there's a Q&A section on the advancement. Good luck!

                                          Man, hearing these horror stories make me feel glad I never participated in the GI Bill when I was active duty. I always regretted the decision, thinking it would have enticed me take some college classes after I got out.....

                                          Are you guys talking about LE academies? Didn’t know you could use it for that….

                                          If so, why isn’t your hiring agency doesn’t pay for it?

                                              You can use it for any school/training, including OJT.

                                              I'm being paid while in the academy, and normally wouldn't care about the hold up, but I spent a lot of money moving here and got screwed over by my department (long story) so I need the money to pay off the bills from not only moving but also the month and a half I went without a job...

                                                          Sorry to jack the thread but your department has you in the academy and you can still file for GI Bill while in there.
