Anyone know anything about the Marine base in Yuma? I have a job interview upcoming and I wanted a little insight. what kind of work does this base get?

Is it common to take a PT test upon interviewing? They also have me doing a medical from a doctor.

I lived there for two years. I left because the school systems were horrendous if you have children with special needs. It's a nice drive to San Diego, doesn't take long at all...or you can slip over to Mexico for a bit. Lots of great things to do if you're the out-doorsy type.

I realize this doesn't answer your question at all...I was only a dependant...what is it that you are applying for on the base?

Sand, lots of it. Tumbleweed. Cactus. Scorpions. Airfield shared by military on one side, and civilian airport on the other. Typical LE calls. Physical security & antiterrorism are high priority on base. Lots of illegals crossing over. Hot, but not humid. Isolated.

If applying for the MC civilian police, will have to take PT test & stay in shape throughout career. Conditions of employment.

Don't know anything about current real estate prices or cost of living.

My Unit does training there every year for a month until the Yuma Air Show. Those of you who've been stationed there can probably guess who I was with.

We were very fond of the Burger King & the Pizza Place there. The Chow hall is pretty good though.

Not a bad little base though, if you don't mind Harrier noise 24/7.

EDIT: Oh, and Mexico was definately off limits to any US military on libo. (at least when I was there it was)
