Very interesting.... I'd expect to see this sort of specific-skills position become more common in law enforcement in the future: social worker/police officer, educator/police officer, evidence technician/police officer, accountant/police officer, lawyer/police officer, automotive engineer/police officer, etc. Federal agencies have been doing it to some degree already, but it may soon scale to general jurisdiction agencies, especially larger ones. Patrol "generalists" will obviously still be needed, but these types of specialties might bring a new breed of professionals with advanced relevant education into law enforcement if they could figure out a way to offer competitive salaries.

If they had infantry/police officer, I'd never leave the profession! That would cause quite a ruckus with the community activists.

A few years back, a department in my area changed administration and, for the first time anyone can recall, hired supervisors and investigators straight into the roles. Prior to this, these spots were always filled internally. One of those investigators was a digital specialist. From what I hear, it's worked out well.

Also, I noticed this in the description:
"Upon appointment, all applicants must possess certification in ATV, Boating, and Snowmobile Safety and possess a valid driver’s license with no OWI convictions within one year, and no more than 2 moving violations or at fault accidents within the past two years."

Once again, Wisconsin's drinking culture shines through.

Considering the law that's about to go into effect on July 1st in Illinois, and another bill that recently made it out of committee that's going to take away our qualified immunity, I'd take that job in a heartbeat.
