  • Am I going color blind?

Tell me that I am not the only officer here who has problems telling the difference between the green 05 expiration stickers and the blue 07 expiration stickers on license plates. They all look green to me until I am about 10 feet away. DOT needs to change one of those colors.

Our state used yellow, green and now blue. With the yellow and green they could look different colors depending on the time of day and the angle you were looking at them. The blue stickers seem more of a flat blue so we don't have that problem.

I'm with you Badgerland, I hate those new expiration stickers. I work 3rd shift and its impossible to tell the difference. Hopefully the 08 stickers will be something besides green, blue, or yellow.

Connecticut did the same thing, light blue for 2005 and light green for 2006, can't tell the difference at night.

Michigan did the same thing- white then yellow and now orange (which is a little easier.) Why can't these morons that run these depts. use alternating shades- white one year, blue the next, red the next, and so on? They used to do that specifically for this reason in Mi. WTF??? happened to common sense- ooops, my bad - we're talking about Government. Sorry

I have to chime in here and complain about Iowa's 06 stickers. We had red for 05, now it's an off orange color. Very tough to tell the difference between the two unless your right up their butt. Bad choices by the DOT. They need to go with bright backgrounds and dark numbers. The yellow and black stickers they had a while back were great.

Since I'm not certified in Wisconsin, I can't do anything, and I really don't know if it's something you could write up a citation on, but I hate when they put the different year stickers all over the plate and not over the previous year; in Texas we went to the windshield inspection and registration stickers.....

If I recall correctly, placing the sticker anywhere other than the lower right corner would be considered Improper Display of License Plates. Same for people that add personal stickers to their plates. I saw one once that read 'I [heart] MY GSD'. Pretty CS to write someone for either, though.

I have to agree with the majority, blue and green, especially at night, are virtually indistinguishable from each other. Plus, the black writing is a bad idea as well. It'd be better if they reversed out the letters (white on a darker background) -- much easier to read at a distance.
Caution and worry never accomplished anything.

In Iowa it would also be improper display if they place the stickers other than the lower right corner. We have tards that do the same thing. They think it's looks pretty..

                      Also, wasn't '02 or '03 also blue?

A friend of mine stopped this lady because she had no stickers on the plate. She showed him her envelope that the stickers came in and told him she followed the directions. The little caption stating "Place stickers here" she took to mean as on the envelope, not the plate. I don't know what her hair color was.

They are tough to see. I believe 2003 was the dark blue.

If they would space out the colors in a 4 or 5 year cycle, it would make sense...maybe that is why they don't do it.

Another gripe I have. I am sure this is money related. The plates don't expire at the end of the month any more. Most do, but many are expiring on a variety of days throught the month. My response is to give the drivers a bit more of a grace period before I start writing.

I completely agree. They suck. Even worse is that the 08 stickers are yellow which is going to make them impossible to tell from the '06 stickers. Who comes up with this crap? Its not like they don't have enough colors to choose from to keep them at least a few years apart.

DOT comes up with this. According to them, they have so many sheets of the sticker color and they think they get more bang for their buck if they just change the color of the numbers on that same or similar color. The OLD OLD days of the yellow and black plates that told the month with the first huge letter would be GREAT to have back.
