I currently work for a small department as we were just told this week that we basically are going to get no money next year for new equipment that we planned to buy. I was wondering if anyone knew of where we could apply for grants to get tasers? Like I said we are very small only 3 full time and 10 part time so any free money helps a lot. Thanks

Not that a "Taser" will solve all of your use of force issues, but you may want to dig through past years stat's and figure out how many hours, mileage, uniform replacement, injury, how many times you had to use of force beyond a "Taser" level as well as over all cost you incurred due to officer injury, suspect injury and time spent at a hospital for either or both that could have been likely been avoided by the use of a Taser. I would also include the ability to diffuse a situation by means activation of a "Taser" w/o deployment and how many times you think this may have been a successful option but since you don't have them it ended up in a use of force. I would then take these figures and present them to the board showing that it's money well spent to mitigate costs. I may be wrong, but "Taser" may give you a loaner for trial or demonstration to the board. Get one to take a "Taser" exposure and then the same person take the O.C. exposure...

      Again,

      Good luck!

        Ask and they will donate...

Get authorization from the higher up powers and ask your larger businesses. Have a plan on the total cost of the project and how it will benefit the community. Set up a meeting the the decision makers of the businesses and ask for the money. Work with the financial person in your community; they donations must be 501c3 tax deductable to make it worth for them to donate.

You will be surprised how willing businesses and your citizens to donate money to the police department if they know what the money will be spent on.

Don't forget to provide a lot of public thanks for the businesses and citizens.

        Good luck,
