  • Seattle Oral board

I have my first oral, actually second if you count the one for DOC, for Seattle Police. I'm wondering what to expect from Seattle for this process. Is it more laid back or are they going to try to lay on the pressure?

Also, what's the chance they they will take someone with not as much experience? I mean, given the fact that they are hiring 80 officers this year and want to expand their size by 154 by 2012.

I will have a 4 year degree and I've got a good head on my shoulders. So what's the chance. All comments greatly appreciated.

I passed the oral. Pheww. That was a weight of my shoulders. I've got a clean background. Minor things here and there, but nothing that would dq me. I feel a lot better now. Thanks.

Very straight forward. You actually write out your answer to the first three questions on a sheet of paper that you will later present to the oral board. There is a moderater that asks the questions and three evaluaters that grade them. They really don't talk. The questions were pretty much all common sense questions and there was absolutely no follow up questioning.

Make sure you remember what you wrote on the PHI packet for Seattle and don't change your story from what you wrote on it. I'd even make a photocopy of it and memorize it. I filled it out, did the written test, PT test, background interview and passed the background process. It took 4 months during which time I remembered some stuff I had left off the background packet (nothing of which was a disqualifier according the poly examiner). When I went in to take my Poly, they ask you a million questions of which a lot they haven't asked you before. I told them about the stuff I remembered that I had forgot to write down on the PHI and they asked me why I didn't mention it before to which I stated that I had forgotten because it was little things. Long story short, I received a letter a couple months later after not hearing from them that they had decided not to proceed in the process with me due to the fact that I had left information out of my PHI. So whatever you do, if you remember something you left out on your PHI or background interview, call your BI right away and let them know.

I have not been assigned a backgrounder yet. But when I do I will definitely tell them about two things I left out. Neither of them should dq me. On the section where it says "have you ever committed a crime that you were not caught for?" I did not include speeding. Also, I have am not even %10 sure that I have viewed child porn, but if I was even the slighest bit suspicious I stopped viewing. I also have never, ever, ever, ever purposely searched for that stuff. It abhorrent to me. I know, nasty stuff to have to talk about, but will it be a dq? I think/hope not.
