Police Recruit Shortage

I think with low funding over the last few years, most agency held off on recruiting and individuals who were interested in this field could not find employment and looked elsewhere or went back to school. I know for myself, I am pursuing law enforcement because it is my dream job. Do i have other options? Yes, but they aren't my dream job. I will actually be taking a pay cut to work in law enforcement the first few years, if I am hired.
It is ironic the extreme change in behavior as a society that has occured over the last 15-20 years, when it comes to attitudes toward police officers and military. Law enforcement are dealing with the worst of the worst on a daily basis and military are fighting for their lives at times, to protect the quality of life we have. It is a shame the way society looks at the career. All you have to do is look at the comments on that article to find negativity to law enforcement.

Agreed, I especially liked the Burlington Police Officer's quote that "The job's not for everybody, for sure. It does take the right people and I think I would rather have the right person in uniform rather than just somebody in uniform."

It says that they believe fewer people are interested in getting a job in law enforcement because of outside scrutiny. I think I believe that's true. I've known of officers getting complants against them for simply pulling someone over. I mean it didn't go anywhere but I could definitely see that as a reason less people are interested in law enforcement.
