  • Public Safety Personal History ?

Like many agencies the application has some questions about crimes that you committed in the past but weren't caught/arrested for. The personal history statement for Public Safety Testing has a section of 25 misdemeanor crimes (that range from MIP and fishing without a license to DUI, the past 10 years) and a section for felonies (lifetime).

Do you know of any agencies that have a cutoff for an applicant that has committed too many misdemeanors in their past? For example, would an agency say we will only accept applicants who admit to committing under 5 misdemeanors? Or is it just how often the offense was committed and the situation behind each circumstance? Thanks!!

Depends 110% on the what, where, and when. Every department is different. There is no blanket answer that you're looking for.

I would guess that with as competitive as it is out there right now, anyone with a considerable amount of misdemeanors would get eliminated pretty quick. but I have seen some departments out there that state that no misdemeanors within the last 10 years, but can't recall who it was.

If you go to the public safety test website, every dept has the list of qualifications/special requirements there.

        http://www.publicsafetytesting.com/

On the upper left hand corner select agency listings, police officer, Washington, select your region, then click on the dept you need info on. All the info is there.

Whatever you do DON'T LIE OR MINAMIZE any details in you past. It will come out in the background and you will be disqualified. The biggest disqaulifier for people wanting to be a LEO is lying, usally about stuff that would not have mattered anyways.

The guy that finished tops in my class was #1 on a bunch of eligbility lists but was also disqualified by a couple of depts for things he had in his distant past. It just depends on the agency and more importantly your background investigator
