Last thing I am is management or an advocate of the things they do. I admit I can be a little abrasive when attacked and should power down a bit. And I have an idea of what kind of officer you guys think I am because of it. But you really got me all wrong its almost comical to me. You'll be surprised when you ask around about me my work ethic and rapport I have with everyone I've come in contact with. And the respect I've earned on this dept over the yrs. I invite anyone to pm me.
Joe there is no need. My whole purpose of being here is to shed light to prospective MPD candidates, not make friends. Frankly with your temper on the internet and your affinity of protecting high ranking officials I would much rather not avoid any private interactions.

If you want to have a respectful dialogue on the pros and cons of MPD in the open forum, I would welcome that with open arms.

It the age old story of MPD, where the veteran who is "locked into a specialized unit" looks down and insults others while just exposing their own ignorance.

Again, I am just here to help prospective candidates know what the real MPD is like. I do appreciate the kudos for my service, its almost as great as when our pay gets messed up for the 11th month straight and the chief send a mass email saying "we are in the together"

Yes lots of bickering here but I'll take my tier one retro check on Friday and put it to good use. It is terrible that they keep postponing the raises and say it's the most complicated system in the universe. I just hope our raise goes into effect on April 21st...

        1099,
I am not here to make friends as well. Nor do I have any desire to private message you or anyone here. My only motivation putting that out is to avoid confusion and clarify things. It’s difficult to do that in an open forum. And, you are confused and/or don’t have a true understanding of me. How could you? The same way I don’t know you from a hole in the wall. Or what kind of officer you are. But I can read and I’m not passive and I don’t bite my tongue.

You implied I was IAD way back when which set things in motion for certain idiots you work with and others. I say that with no anger. No temper. I simply speak my mind and call it the way I see It. Especially if I’m being attacked by idiots. Sworn members or not. Or retired.

You say you only want to have professional dialogue. What is professional about implying I’m with IAD? Especially if I’ve never snitched on anyone in 30 plus yrs LE. It’s different when co-worker friends joke and say that stuff to each other. It’s innocent. But I don’t know you. Chances are I’m going to react. Most would.

I’ve been written up so many times. Refused to sign discipline papers from Lts. Have gotten days I didn’t deserved. So, when you say I love and support management. I don’t even know how to respond to that. I absolutely hate management and the things they do. Things they’ve done to me personally.

Not that it means anything but I’ve been in a specialized unit briefly. 95 percent of my time has been in the section. But what does that even mean. Who the hell cares?

Just because I try and look at some of the good things about MPD. Is that a reason to attack me? Just because I won’t say everything about MPD is rotten stay away. Reason to attack me?? And bottom line I’ve already acknowledged MPD is a F’ed up dept. No one is going to compelled me to say anything more. Or less. I’ll say what the hell I want. But I understand the nature of these type of discussions/open forums and misconceptions they create. And I’m big enough to admit I’ve created some of them here.

I’m absolutely open to good dialogue as well. But if you don’t understand where I’m coming from and the things you’ve said/implied. Then this communication is useless to me. My time is limited here anyway. Most of the communication I have are private messages from people applying with MPD asking me why you guys say the things you do. And I’m truthful with them. I let them know the dept is F’ed up and officers, you guys suffer because of it. But at the same time. In my own way I note some of the few(very few) decent things about MPD. Its really just that simple.

Its unfortunate that your posts are inconsistent. I did ask if you were assigned to Internal Affairs due to you saying you were away from the "chaos" and "locked in to a specialized unit" in HQ, but I never implied you were bad or you even investigated officers. As you know, Internal Affairs covers internal administrative duties such as checking people into court, risk management tons of admin stuff. Even if you do/did investigate other officers, that isn't a bad thing as long as you are fair, unfortunately we know that IAD and management are not fair and have a horrible habit of protecting criminals and perverts if they are in the inner circle.

but you continued on to attack me and others. If you want to talk to possible candidates and others in private because you cannot defend your position that is fine. I will continue to be public with my views on this place, and withstand any threats from others who want to see a person who shares public info on this forum with investigations.

I would say thats just an illusion, our classes have less than 10 people a month and we have 3300 cops and 40 leave a month. The math doesn't add up.

Really 1099? You really going down like that? This is one reason why I can’t have a dialogue with you and quite frankly why I don’t respect you. 5 billion jobs at MPD Headquarters and you ask me during a heated exchange if I’m internal affairs. Really? You really going there? You should have never responded like that. It discredits you completely and makes you look quite silly. Everyone knows you were busting my chops but who cares lol.

Going forward my comments are not directed towards you 1099. Communicating with you is useless. My comments here are directed towards anybody looking to join MPDC.

What you have here is a rack of MPD guys. Or a couple who were bent over and absolutely brutalized by MPD. Because they have 5,6,7 yrs. on, the majority if not all of their time with MPD has been horrible. They’ve been written up, suspended probably, re-assigned. Some have had such a horrible time they’ve left the dept. And guys like me. Guys in my unit/division with a lot of time shielded from it ready to retire and retired feel horrible for them. We’ve been there but not to their extent. The crap they deal with is terrible and they don’t deserve it.

I’ve acknowledged here and private messages to applicants MPDC is a Fuc’d up dept and probably not a good time to apply. I’ve said this and told applicants. But, officers like 1099 and others like him. You need to understand, his/her disdain for MPDC runs very deep. Very one sided and always will be. If I deployed operated like I did back then today I wouldn’t be just miserable too, I would have been indicted and terminated. So, 1099 does serve a purpose here. If you want a real understanding of how horrible currently MPD can be he/she is your man/gal.

I’m your man if you want a different perspective. I know the dept is insane. But me and all the people I came up with. Awhile back not really all that long ago. It was great working with MPD! Awesome. Especially early on in my career. I have those memories. 1099 does not. I’m probably going to get approx. $6,500 TO $7,000 a month retirement for the rest of my life that increases over time. $200,000 MPD helped me put away w/ my 457. Just got a check today for almost $14,000 back pay. Taking great benefits with me. As much as 1099 and others here want me to, I’m not going to stand on a box in front of MPD HDQ and scream out loud how horrible MPD is.

Ask me anything and/or keep the private messages coming. Like 1099 I’m not going anywhere as well.

It is a good thing you are "locked into a specialized unit" because your inconsistent statements would land you in the lewis (brady) list in court, and your unwarranted attacks would lead you to either being terminated or at a minimum being the officer nobody wants to be on scene with because your self control is lacking.

Lost 141 Officers in four months of FY23. I’d be curious to know how many left in 2022.

                          Pretty bad.

So the taxpayers are paying five million dollars extra, to hire less than half the officers needed?

The taxpayers are doing this to themselves, by continuing to blindly vote Democrat, when failed Democrat policies is exactly what is causing the problems.

                        • For the youngsters out there, I will elucidate.

D.C. has not elected a Republican mayor since 1956, 67 years ago. Every single mayor since, has been a Democrat.

                          Democrat winners like Marion Barry.

In 1990, while he was the mayor of D.C., Barry got arrested and subesequently convicted of felony drug charges after getting caught smoking crack and cheating on his wife with a prostitute in a hotel room.

After Barry was released from federal prison, D.C. voters then re-elected him for his fourth term as mayor.

In 2002, Barry got busted again, for marijuana and cocaine found in his car.

In 2005, Barry was arrested for DUI. He submitted to alcohol testing, but refused drug testing.

In 2006, while dealing with his tax evasion crimes, court-mandated drug testing revealed cocaine and marijuana in his system.

Barry was constantly in hot water for corruption involving millions of dollars.

Barry was fond of making racist comments against Americans of Asian and Polish descent.

And yet D.C. voters continued to re-elect Barry to public office, until he eventually died in office in 2014.

D.C. voters are doing this to themselves.

A way of thinking that is definitely unique to DC culture.

Actually, it was "Mayor For Life". However, my concern is that since he died in 2014, he's probably going to continue voting Democrat forever. And I sure hope he doesn't get elected again.

                        • A lot being said in this thread. Too much to read. I work with a partner agency and have many friends on MPD. Only take this job because it’s good money with good benefits. Use this place as a stepping stone or to climb the ranks. It’s career suicide and mentally unhealthy to stay in patrol. Not to mention no nothing officials that always look to write you up and ruin your career.

This department and the city doesn’t have your back. They will indict you and try to give you more time than a real criminal who purposely killed someone. Definitely don’t take this job to be a cop. Most of us take this job for the right reason. Imagine not being able to chase a vehicle that the occupants just shot someone or an armed carjacking because you commander says it’s 4 hours old and to leave it alone. Imagine making good gun cases that don’t get papered because USAO doesn’t have enough prosecutors or they fundamentally don’t believe in locking up criminals.

I’ve heard an instance of an officer being shot at and the commander said let the car go don’t chase. Imagine a partner agency asking for assistance in a chase for a part 1 offense and the primary agency like MPD says nope not our problem. This is one of the most handcuffed agencies you will ever see. Like most big city agencies I have not met one officer on this department that likes this job. Just take this job to get paid and move up. Nothing more.

To be fair, it doesn't matter if a commander says go chase or not. Look at the laws that city council put in place to prohibit chases, if you chase for any reason at all you will have a good chance that you will serve days at the minimum or possibly be placed in jail.

DC council is probably the biggest issue in DC, they are extremely progressive and push laws and policies that weaken public safety and embolden criminals.

They just got embarrassed by congress who rejected their crime bill which was a disaster, first time in 30 years that congress intervened in local DC. yet, they don't see it as them being wrong, they see it as everyone else being wrong. They govern by activism and special interest vs what the people want.

I wasn’t aware the council passed a law on chases. It must be pretty new. This has been going on for years with MPD and it’s more to my point. You won’t feel like a real cop taking this job. You’re a police officer and the job is to get dangerous criminals off the street. Don’t want to allow chases for stolen cars cause it’s a property crime and it’s insured ok fine. But armed carjackings and people wanted for shooting are not ok to let go. I’ll never forget a friend of mine heard shots fired and starting canvassing the block and found some people that were shot at.

The car was speeding off and he gave chase. The commander said let it go because the officer didn’t witness the shooting. Another time 2 cars taken in an armed carjacking were traveling together in a district and the commander allowed a short chase. Once they left and entered another MPD district he said good job getting them out of our district let it go. I couldn’t believe it. He was so happy and acting like he accomplished something. I put all this out there so applicants know if you get this job you won’t be the real police. Use this job to make the money, climb the ranks and then use the skills you learned to get a good retirement job.

What you said was extremely accurate lol! DC council is the sole reason why DC is falling apart and problems with crime. Just like you said, this job won’t make you the real police, but you would be more of a customer service officer with a badge and gun. Cursing on your BWC will get you suspended for a minimum of 10 days now. I heard this from a few officers in my old district after I left the department. When I heard that, I couldn’t believe it lol, but apparently it’s true. The new contract is even more heavy handed with discipline, but people are blinded by the money…smh.

But, yes, use this job as a stepping stone. You’ll be surprised how many other agencies(mainly federal) will pick you up in a heartbeat when they see MPD on your resume. That’s what I did and I’m happy made the move to federal.

I’m glad you got out. I see why MPD has the pension they do. They earn it over there. Feds pension sucks compared to MPD, but all the guys I know that switched to the feds said it was worth coming over. They are just happier now. And I’ve heard about the officers being written up and suspended for cursing on the bwc. I’ve also heard of officers being written up for going in service with the wrong call sign by mistake.

Or making a good lockup in reference to armed carjacking (they happened to pull over) but because it was 2 blocks outside the PSA get a write up instead of a commendation. Screw that noise. And the fact MPD actually takes crap from ANC commissioners who have no political power whatsoever.
