I saw on the site that they are looking for Officers 2 and 3. What is the difference between the two? Also, is there really a $5000 sign-on bonus? I'm not in it for the money, but that is pretty nice.

If I am not mistaken, the officer 2 and 3 positions are laterals. They're not Special Police positions, however. MTPD recruits SPO's out of the written test. If you score below the MTPD acceptance percentile, but above a certain mark, you are able to work into the SPO recruitment or retest later in the year.

Yes, there really is a 5k signing bonus, at least that's what I've been told.

Some of the officers promised the signing bonus in the past never received it. That may have been rectified, but I'd want to see that signing bonus in writing. No one is in it for the money, but you expect an employer to deliver on promises.

Thanks for the info guys! Yup not in it for the money, but here in NJ it is so hard to be a cop that I was taken aback by the fact that they offer a bonus to take the job! Again thanks for the info!
