    Not in the process, but it's my understanding that they are trying hard to get some through before the PG Municipal Academy starts towards the end of January.

    If I remember the announcement said starting is $21.50 an hour.

    I got the call yesterday and have my interview coming up - one more step closer.

    Positives-
    It's a good starting point, the department is small, so opportunities come may come a lot quicker (or slower) than other departments.
    There are a ton of agencies in the area and quite a few stop through.
    The Pay goes up after you finish the academy and then again after you recieve your commision.
    You get MPTC certified as well as DC certified.
    It's not a "force protection" job, but it's also not a place where you're going to be getting major crimes much.
    No max age.
    Railroad retirement.
    Amtrak is a big corporation, so if you want to change careers or duty locations it's possible and you keep your retirement.
    Free travel for you and your family with a few exceptions.


    The parking situation is not an issue.

    Nope, no night differential.

    - Having a job in an economy with almost 10% unemployment
    - Ability to do overtime
    - Ability to do specialty work (K-9, Tac Team, Investigations)
    - Medical, Dental, and Life Insurance benefits
    - Other benefits such as free train rides for you AND your family
    - Being a LEO and being proud of what you do
    - Tuition assistance for college

    Negative:
    - EVERY job has negatives, but why worry about those when you can read above and focus on the POSITIVE

    I took the agility last month and passed, took the written a couple of weeks ago, passed, and am waiting on the interview.

    When I went from NYC to USPP, I took an initial 20K pay cut....... I have since made it all back, and then some, and I am now making well into a 6 figure income. It took me about 2 years to get back to where I was. FLETC was straight pay for 6 months, and then FTO after that, after I got out on my own, I could add to my base by making some OT for arrests, voluntary detail OT, etc.....

    Also remember 25% Sunday pay, and 10% night diff, will give you a big boost, if you work Sundays or evenings/midnights.... I AM ASSUMING that Amtrak gets Sunday PAY and N/D RIGHT ??????? Good luck

    I'm completely aware that HR usually has sections. However, its also reasonable to believe that the primary contact for police applicants, would have access to the police pay scale. If that person does not, they should refer you to someone that does have access.

    As far as your attitude towards the issue at hand, if you don't see how it is important for an applicant to research the benefits of a job before he applies, there really is nothing I can say...

    I would however, suggest you attend some pre-employment training. I attended a pre-employment/background investigations course for my agency a few years ago, which has had numerous benefits.

    Are there 100s of people that will apply for this announcement? Absolutely. But how interested are they in the job if they don't research it? This can also be indicative of the quality of employee they could become if hired.

    For anyone in this thread, coming someone who is trained in the pre-employment and background process for public safety, always do your research first. Not only does it show a high level of interest for the job, it creates a better workforce as a whole. Would you rather work with people who researched the job thoroughly, and knew what they were signing up for, or those who didn't really care, merely submitted the application, and "went through the hoops", only to find out its not what they thought it would be?

    Thanks! To be completely honest, I only have talked to one person in HR, and that was the lady I had to contact to confirm my participation in the agility test. I've been looking online, but I have been unable to locate a payscale as of yet. I'll try to find another contact in HR to speak to.

    I'm just trying to make the best, informed decision as possible.

    Johnny Reb, it seems weird HR doesn't have the pay scale. Is there a police recruiter who could point you in the right direction? Maybe you should try to google their union site, maybe they have a pay scale listed?

    I do not know why some people like busting chops. You are not being picky and the "don't like it don't apply" is absurd. You need to research pay scales and pensions before applying for a job esp when you have bills and a family. Kudos for trying to do your research.
