  • Code of Virginia

    Hello all,

I am going to be moving to Virginia later this month prior to my academy in December. I was wondering if you could provide some methods so I can start reviewing the code. In NY we have a condensed guide for V&T. http://www.looseleaflaw.com/catalog/...=0-930137-17-5 Any methods to remember would be helpful.

Title 18.2 (Crimes) and 46.2 (Vehicle) are probably good starting points. Also certain portions of Title 19.2 (Criminal Procedure).

Good Lord. Virginia has the most anal vehicle equipment laws I've ever seen. I'd have a field day with traffic stops.

      I approve.
There once was a man who said: "Though,
it seems that I know that I know,
what I'd like to see is the I that knows me,
when I know that I know that I know."

I recommend buying a PocketPress Virginia Code Book. They are easy to read, small, and contain pretty much all the codes your going to use.

You could also go to a website like www.virginiacops.com which has a few education and resource sections with links to specific code sections that are easy to follow.

I don't remember if I picked mine up at a local bookstore or if I purchased it through the academy or courthouse... but I found a "Magistrate's Handbook" to be extremely useful.

I'll second the magistrates handbook. Well organized and a great help

I appreciate the replies. Is the magistrates handbook similar to this link http://www.courts.state.va.us/courta...magman/toc.pdf ?

Not really. I tried a quick google and can't find an exact image. I believe the 2014 version is a small black paperback with gold writing on the front

That's the handbook, although it's only the table of contents. If you dig through Google you can find the rest of it, although it might be chapter by chapter and not all as one document or PDF.
