  • Election -- Voting Tuesday?

It is no secret that we (along with the People's Republik of New Jersey) have a gubernatorial election on Tuesday. Even for those who are politically ignorant or who have been asleep, it is hard to miss all those silly radio and TV ads that have been inundating us for the past several weeks.

Once again, it comes down to a situation where we have to possibly vote against one guy - instead of for his opponent. Aside from the governor's mansion, our lieutenant governorship and the postion of attorney general are up for grabs. Several seats in the VA House of Delegates are contested too.

Get out there and vote - if you are a resident, registered and are otherwise eligible!

The comments above reflect my personal opinion as a private citizen, ordinary motorist and all-around good guy.

It makes it really hard to complain about the results if you don't get out there and vote yourself.
Magistrate: "Do you have any other pending charges?"
Drunk: "Well there's this thing where the cops said I spit blood on them."
Me: "Wait a minute, that was me!"
Drunk: "Oh... now you like me even less."

Our Governor's race isnt too bad at least. One way, we get a hardline republican...the other way we get a guy who in most other states would be considered Republican.

        Election

Yeah, Clem; I see what you mean. The first guy is mostly conservative - at least on what counts (supporting our Second Amendment rights & keeping the tax burden low). Bob McDonnell is endorsed by the National Rifle Association AND the Virginia Citizens Defense Leauge.

I find his idea about selling off the state liquor stores to be awesome and well past due; but the governor doesn't have that power (which he fails to admit in his radio/TV ads). I also cannot fathom why he thinks that erecting toll booths on I-95 is even worthy of consideration. Bad idea! Tolls = Taxes; whether they admit it or not. It is inexcusable for such rubbish to emanate from a Republican, especially a conservative one. Wow!

His opponent used to be a conservative; but Creigh Deeds has been pulled to the left in order to get out-of-state Democrat money. Look how he reversed himself on gun control and now says that we need 'new revenue streams' (liberal double-talk euphemism for higher taxes). I don't think he'd be a bad governor, but those liberals who got those donations for him will want some favors in return. Remember, our current part-time governor, Tim Kaine, will be pulling some of Deeds's strings.

I'm just so sick of the ads from both candidates - as they do nothing but tell us that the "other guy" will do bad things and sell our children into bondage; but neither focuses on what HE will actually do. There is also no "third party" candidate in this contest - so casting a protest vote is out of the question.

The lieutenant governor's race is more clear-cut, though. The Democrat (Jody Wagner) is truly a liberal's liberal through and through. She is weak on Second Amendment issues and touts the "excellent" fiscal stewardship of the Kaine and Warner administrations. Guffaw! Guffaw! Republican Bill Bolling will serve honorably and already has a solid conservative record. He's also the incumbent (the LT gov can serve two terms, unlike the gov) and has demonstrated solid support of our Second Amendment and opposes trying to tax ourselves into prosperity.

The next attorney general will be Democrat Steve Shannon or Republican Ken Cuccinelli. Both have their good and bad points, but Mr. Cuccinelli gets kudos from me for being endorsed by both the NRA and the VCDL. He supports and defends the Second Amendment - and is not ashamed to say so! We need more people with the cojones to stand up against the chumps who want to destroy our constitutional rights.

Gotta do my part in sending a message that will be head loud and clear north of the Patomac.

Creigh Deeds is OK, be a good pick in some races, but not this one, not now.

My only real problem with Bob mcDonnell was when he wrote an AG opinion that stated the State Police was NOT Law Enforcement when it came to equal protection under FLSA, whereas every local agency and sheriffs dept in the state was.

That, by far, is the most irritating part of every election. Stop telling me why I shouldn't vote for your opponent. Just tell me why I should vote for you. Otherwise you're basically admitting that I am voting for you because you are simply the lesser of two evils.

                        Back again.

I'm researching both candidates for governor and am finding it difficult to locate why McDonnell voted against the bill stating that priests must notify the authorities when there is suspected child abuse going on in their church, like this one. http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...bil&val=hb1740

I imagine there's a valid reason for it... I just don't know what it is. Any ideas from his supporters?

Or why he allowed clergyman to own child pornography? What on earth would they need it for? http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...bil&val=hb2457

Im with you Marcus...McDonnell has done a few things that make me scratch my head. Overall I like him, and think he will be a fine Governor; however, what you brought up, and an AG opinion that said the State Police is NOT a law enforcement agency, thus not eligable for FLSA protection like local agencies would be, confuses me.

Looks like we will get 4 years to figure out what kind of guy he is though.
